Maxine & Teddy deliver feeling & heat in this second chance romance.

My heart adored this story between Odette & Gavin so much. I really appreciate when a second chance romance occurs when both characters are older, have lived life, and fate has tangled them back together.

Maxine is so powerful as Odette, a successful and independent self-made woman. She gives Odette so much confidence and self-awareness; and I was cheering for Odette this whole story. My heart broke for her; her young love with Gavin really gave her a terrible outlook on love. I also appreciate that the FMC is the one with attachment issues, that representation is so important.

Teddy, as Gavin, skated away with my heart. He married his childhood sweetheart out of obligation and a sense of duty when they become pregnant with Tori, therefore giving Gavin a situation he was not prepared or equipped to handle as a college bound hockey player. I really enjoyed the scenes with Gavin and his 19 year old daughter…she is the link that broke the summer tryst Odette and Gavin had 20 years prior but she is also the force that brings them together as Odette’s mentee.

The flashbacks are written and performed beautifully; and for me were powerful parts of both Maxine and Teddy’s performances. They also handle Odette’s life with hashimoto's disease. There is a scene that brings me to tears when I think of the tenderness that Gavin shows her.

This is the 3rd book in an interconnected series and I listened to it as a standalone. Now I’m ready to go back and listen to the other two books.

Spectacular Second Chance

Oh man, Alison Rhymes will rip your heart right out with Odette and Gavin’s origin, but their HEA is worth each tear and every heart palpitation! Each book in the Seattle Blades series has become my new favorite. Odette is a force to be reckoned with; she’s a highly sought after stylist with a hardened, yet compassionate heart. Gavin is a veteran hockey player nearing retirement who gladly took a trade to the Seattle Blades. When a twist of fate throws the girl who got away into his path, Gavin relentlessly takes his second shot. I loved catching up with favorite characters and meeting new goofball teammates. Gavin’s daughter, Tori, is a lovely, well-rounded character. If you love second chance romance with grounded, (mostly) well-adjusted characters and a swoony & dirty mouthed MMC, Tempest is a must-listen.

Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton bring Alison’s wonderful love story to life perfectly. Their passionate performances were spectacular. I loved Maxine and Teddy as Odette and Gavin from their heartbreaking backstory to their hard-fought forever.

So good...

I love a complex story and Alison Rhymes is giving that in spades! Odette us a strong, independent woman and I love her and what she represents as much as I love Gavin. I won't spoil the story for y'all but read it! LoL

Great second chance

If ever there was a couple that deserved a second chance, it’s Gavin and Odette. They were absolutely always meant to be together, and I can’t even fault Gavin for leaving Odette when he did because he did what needed to be done in the moment by strapping up and being a father to his daughter. Were there other ways he could have handled his ex telling him she was pregnant—sure. But at a 18 years old, he did something most other fresh out of high school kids wouldn’t have the strength to do. Now, 20 years later, Gavin and Odette have a new shot, and Gavin absolutely refuses to pass it up.

I was fully invested in this couple’s happy ending. They earned it, and I loved listening to their journey (I did this entire series on audio). The relationship Odette was able to build with Gavin’s daughter was perfect and so helpful in her figuring out how to forgive Gavin for leaving all those years ago. I also love that we get a scene where Odette stands up for her relationship with Gavin to his ex, and I appreciated the maturity level of all three adults in how they handled a situation that caused a lot of pain over the years. Overall, I really enjoyed this series and hope that Alison has more in store for us!
