Aramburu alludes only obliquely to the historical context while he focuses on the psychological complexity of his characters and builds nearly unbearable suspense.

Most of these tales were short story character sketches written in a noir style. The last tale, however, was a true noir style detective short story.

Most of the stories was overly esoteric for my liking. I just wanted a bit of light reading.
