Small-town secrets: Spectacular police procedural
I’m thrilled I picked up “Taunting the Dead,” the first book in the DS Allie Shelton series by Mel Sherratt (available now in Audible Plus catalogue at no cost). This suspenseful novel had me hooked from start to finish. Antonia Beamish’s flawless narration brought the characters to vivid life, and I was impressed by her skillful performance. We follow DS Allie Shelton as she investigates a murder and discovers a web of secrets and lies in a small town. Sherratt’s writing is powerful, and I appreciated how she wove together the perplexing threads of the case and how she balanced the dark themes with an emotional pull, making it a compelling and engaging listen. The pacing was comfortably fast-moving. I do so prefer British novels with a strong female lead, and this is another reason why. Highly recommended as I scream from my rooftop, “Epic, I say!”
