MEGHAN

The scary alien hunter has his eyes on me. He’s got sharp fangs, massive claws, huge horns, and walks around in nothing more than a loincloth! Totally terrifying! So why is my body betraying me and reacting in ways it shouldn’t?

With troublemakers inside the gates and deadly space bugs roaming outside, I soon realize Mal’k is the last person I should fear. Because in this crazy bugpocalypse, a hyper-protective Xarc’n warrior is the very thing I need.

MAL’K

I know she’s mine the moment I lay eyes on her. Too bad Meghan’s terrified of me. My human is frightened of everything and cries out in fear, even in her dreams. I long to chase away her demons and wake with her in my arms.

When she leaves the hunters’ compound to live with a group of humans, I follow along, offering to help them forage. She may whimper at the sight of me now, but I’ll never give up until she whimpers under me.

While this is a complete romance with an HEA, it is best listened to as part of a series.

Her mate would always come for her.

I really liked this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable even with the bugpocalypse and violence. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. Melissa was great but also added to Meghan's fear and stress. Meghan couldn't imagine being in Melissa's position and having to deal with everything they had to deal with. Meghan had a pretty active fight or flight instinct when she was afraid and she didn't always choose what was best for herself or for her community. Mal'k was a Xarc'n warrior that was helping the humans. He knew that Meghan was his mate but she was afraid of him which meant that he was trying to change her mind and/or help her get over her fear so that they could be together. Mal'k needed to be close to her in order to keep her safe but that was difficult even without Meghan's fear because others weren't always happy that he was around either. There is some drama and angst but it works out well. I loved their happy ever after. I did want the Separatists to get some comeuppance for their actions. I recommend reading this book.

The narrators did a great job of bringing this story to life. I enjoyed their voices immensely. I recommend listening to this audiobook.

Man I was aggravated

This Meghan girl had me so mad! She was so annoying and childish. I don’t think he deserve a mate like her. Didn’t get connected with the couple!

Scared of everything MFC

I love this series, but I struggled with this one. The main female was a cowardly woman that ran and hid, and didn't fight back. It was not my cup of tea for sure. If a weak woman is not something you can deal with, skip this one and go to the next. There is a lot of information in this one, but you should be able to catch up easily enough with how well the author writes otherwise.

Mal’k Shines, Meghan Struggles

As always, Troy Duran and Keira Stevens deliver excellent narration, making the characters and world feel immersive. Mal’k was an easy hero to like—thoughtful, patient, and willing to adapt when his initial approach to Meghan didn’t work. He respected her fears but also knew when to gently push her forward.

Meghan, however, was much harder to connect with. Her constant fear and inability to adapt made her feel frustratingly stagnant at times. She often reacted to stress with panic, repeatedly falling into the same patterns and making decisions she later regretted.

That said, the world-building continues to expand, and the narration keeps the story engaging. While this book didn’t resonate with me as strongly as others in the series, Mal’k’s devotion adds heart to the story, and the ongoing development of the bugpocalypse world keeps things interesting. It’s still a good addition and worth a listen for series fans.

Living in the bugpocalypse!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️😳🥺☺️🥰

The heroine: Meghan - she came from the same group that Nikki from Rescued by the Hunter. That para-military group doesn’t want to give up the women because they use them for cooking, cleaning and other, more sinister activities. They had taken the women’s shoes so if they tried to escape, they would have to do so barefoot. Though Meghan didn’t care and escaped without their shoes. She is now staying with the New Franklin survivors contingent of humans.

The Hero: Mal’k - he is obsessed with Meghan and keeps sniffing her because he knows that she is his mate. However, he sees that she is wary of him and he can smell her fear. His chest starts rumbling whenever she is near.

The Story: Meghan is afraid of all the hunters including Mal’k. She nearly fainted when he smiled at her with his sharp, pointed teeth. She tried to stay away from him and did her best to keep from being alone with him. He can’t understand why she is so afraid of him and Meghan locks up whenever he is near.

Like the rest of the series, this book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Troy Duran and Keira Stevens do the narration and along with the good storylines, and world building are a big part of why I bought every audiobook in this series. I love Troy’s deep clear voice and Keira sounds young and is great at showing emotions through her voice.

The continuing story of the bugpocalypse was good. In this one the two main characters and the rest of the survivors of New Franklin have moved closer to the compound where the Xarc’n warriors and their mates live. They were fighting against the para-military group and also within their group there were some that were against the hunters and were causing dissidence within the group.

Meghan and Mal’k

Meghan is scared of everything; the alien bugs, the alien warriors, and many other things even though she knows that is not rational. (After all this time in the “bugpocalypse” a bit too scared.) Mal’k recently started to hunt the bugs in a group instead of solo, including humans. He find that a specific human female is particularly interesting. The situation at the new place where Meghan, Mal’k and the group of humans are staying is difficult. The group is divided in two; one part is pro warriors and help fighting and killing the bugs. The other part is against the warriors and they still believe the lies the government told. The situation is about to escalate.

The overall story line is getting better and better. There is suspense, adventure, drama, romance, humor… I want to read the next book asap, as we gotten a glimpse of the next Hero.

I absolutely love this series, the books are very well written. You can read them separately but I recommend reading them in order to enjoy the continuation of the story.

Too Timid

First a plot point that has bothered me with the series. You have a group of bad guys who are abusing, raping and confining women. They kill and steal from others. They have openly spoken about how they have killed hunter’s mates. These are super bad guys, yet book after book they continue to threaten, harass and kill members of the good groups with no retaliation. What a crock of sh!t!! You have unbelievably possessive males with all the skills to wipe out these vermin, yet they allow their women to be taken and killed and don’t do anything about it? Are you freaking kidding me! The first mate that was taken they would have eliminated all the bad guys. Stop using the same bad guys because it’s easy. This is lazy writing.

Her weeks of terror were draining. It made me focus on other annoying aspects of the plot line that I might have been willing to overlook if I wasn’t bored with the couple. Then, she says she trusts him and yet the first instance where she should believe in him she thinks the worst without even asking him. I think he could do much better.

Even the heady rasp of Troy Duran’s voice couldn’t save this book. That man could make the dictionary sound sultry.

Megan sucks and sucks so bad. She is a cry baby.

I would rather die then to live in fear like Megan does. This main girl sucks. Megan doesn't deserve Malke. She is a cry baby. Her man gets attacked and she doesn't care. Can't stand her.

Humans are a mess

This is the worst book in the series. The writing even dipped a bit, like the author couldn't stomach it either. No surprise it’s all about the human settlement: New Franklin... I mean New New Franklin... I mean The Survivors... I mean the remaining half of The Survivors... You get the point, they change names and leadership constantly, utter organizational chaos.

The mfc in this story was too afraid of the hunters to live at the compound, so she moved into the human settlement. And boy did she have a personality suited to that group of thieves, sociopaths, bltches, sheeple and lame duck ‘leaders’. Megan was THE WORST. She was disloyal, weak, frightened and made constant excuses for the vilest of people. She Judas'd Mal'k AFTER the mating bond had started! Can someone tell me why she kept insisting that her previous HUMAN group disbanded due to "infighting" when we know that they were murdering each other? In book 4 we were introduced to her running for her life, barefoot, across a parking lot (the Xarc'n rescued her), after living with the Raiders (HUMANS) who beat her, raped her, and made her a slave. In this book members of her precious new HUMAN group threw her into a Rubbermaid tote at gunpoint and kidnapped her. But the Xarc'n are terrifying 🙄. Just a weird character. Pure Stockholm syndrome.
