Acerca de esta escucha
''With elegance and lucidity, Steve Taylor explains why spiritual science is the only hope for humanity.'' (Deepak Chopra, MD Chopra Foundation)
Is it possible that the biggest mysteries in the world can be solved not through science or spirituality alone, but through an approach that combines them both?
In this ground-breaking book, Steve Taylor offers a new vision of the world that is compatible with both modern science and ancient spiritual teachings. Spiritual Science reveals Taylor's ''panspiritist'' view of reality, one that transcends both conventional science and religion, and answers many of the riddles that neither can fully explain.
The standard model of science has had limited success in explaining many phenomena, including human consciousness, the connection between the mind and the body, altruism and ''anomalous'' phenomena such as near-death experiences, psi phenomena and spiritual experiences, to name just a few. But from a ''panspiritist'' perspective - which sees spirit or consciousness as a fundamental essence of reality - it is possible to make sense of all these things.
Drawing on the insights of philosophers, physicists, mystics, as well as spiritual traditions and indigenous cultures, Steve Taylor makes a compelling case for a spiritual vision of reality. He presents a worldview that is compatible with both modern science and ancient spiritual teachings - a vision of a sacred and interconnected world, and of a meaningful and purposeful human life.

This popular examination of research into children's reports of past-life memories describes a collection of 2,500 cases at the University of Virginia that investigators have carefully studied since Dr. Ian Stevenson began the work more than 40 years ago. The children usually begin talking about a past life at the age of two or three and may talk about a previous family or the way they died in a previous life. Their statements have often been found to be accurate for one particular deceased individual, and some children have recognized members of the previous family.

The answers to these questions are right behind our eyes. The greatest technology we have ever discovered on our planet is the three-pound organ carried in the vault of the skull. This book is not simply about what the brain is; it is about what it does. The magic of the brain is not found in the parts it’s made of but in the way those parts unceasingly reweave themselves in an electric, living fabric.

Sharing his more than three decades of research into the afterlife and paranormal phenomena, award-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Drasin shows that the continuity of human consciousness beyond the physical body and after death constitutes a legitimate area of scientific inquiry and that it can be objectively demonstrated. Drasin begins by revealing how our belief in materialism—through its effects on our social norms, taboos, and even language—has deeply constrained our civilization’s understanding of the nature of space, time, life, death, and consciousness.

The Five Invitations is an exhilarating meditation on the meaning of life and how maintaining an ever-present consciousness of death can bring us closer to our truest selves.

Carl Gustav Jung was the 20th century's greatest articulator of the primacy of mind in nature, a view whose origins vanish behind the mists of time. The present book scrutinizes Jung's work to distil and reveal that extraordinary, hidden metaphysical treasure: For Jung, mind and world are one and the same entity; reality is fundamentally experiential, not material; the psyche builds and maintains its body, not the other way around; and the ultimate meaning of our sacrificial lives is to serve God by providing a reflecting mirror to God's own instinctive mentation.

Challenging leading scientific theories that claim that our senses report back objective reality, cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman argues that while we should take our perceptions seriously, we should not take them literally. How can it be possible that the world we see is not objective reality? And how can our senses be useful if they are not communicating the truth? Hoffman grapples with these questions and more over the course of this eye-opening work.

We're used to thinking about the self as an independent entity, something that we either have or are. In The Ego Tunnel, philosopher Thomas Metzinger claims otherwise: No such thing as a self exists. The conscious self is the content of a model created by our brain - an internal image, but one we cannot experience as an image. Everything we experience is "a virtual self in a virtual reality." But if the self is not "real," why and how did it evolve? How does the brain construct it?

Is there a God? It's a question billions of people have asked since the dawn of time. You would think by now we'd have a satisfactory, universal answer. No such luck...or maybe we do and we just need to look in the right place. For Dr. Jay Lombard that place is the brain, and more importantly the mind, that center of awareness and consciousness that creates reality. In The Mind of God, Dr. Lombard employs case studies from his own behavioral neurology practice to explore the spiritual conundrums that we all ask ourselves.

Alan Watts examines the problem of humans in a seemingly hostile universe in ways that question the social norms and illusions that bind and constrict modern humans. Marking a groundbreaking synthesis, Watts asserts that the powerful insights of Freud and Jung, which had, indeed, brought psychiatry close to the edge of liberation, could, if melded with the hitherto secret wisdom of the Eastern traditions, free people from their battles with the self.

Can yoga and meditation unleash our inherent supernormal mental powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition? Is it really possible to perceive another person's thoughts and intentions? Influence objects with our minds? Envision future events? And is it possible that some of the superpowers described in ancient legends, science fiction, and comic books are actually real, and patiently waiting for us behind the scenes? Are we now poised for an evolutionary trigger to pull the switch and release our full potentials?

Charles Eisenstein explores the history and potential future of civilization, tracing the converging crises of our age to the illusion of the separate self. He argues that our disconnection from one another and the natural world has mislaid the foundations of science, religion, money, technology, economics, medicine, and education as we know them. It has fired our near-pathological pursuit of technological Utopias even as we push ourselves and our planet to the brink of collapse.

Historia
What is consciousness and how can a brain, a mere collection of neurons, create it? In Consciousness and the Social Brain, Princeton neuroscientist Michael Graziano lays out an audacious new theory to account for the deepest mystery of them all. In Graziano's theory, the machinery that attributes awareness to others also attributes it to oneself. Damage that machinery and you disrupt your own awareness. Graziano discusses the science, the evidence, the philosophy, and the surprising implications of this new theory.

Open our minds
This is a great mix of science and spirit. It is inspirational to see/hear that science is helping us to reconnect with spirit and move away from materialism.
The writer is very knowledgeable on the subject and the performer reads as if they also know the knowledge.
I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic!
Steven Taylor is an incredibly intuitive and logical thinker - and this book is one of his best. At age 70 and having been on a 50 year journey to awakening, I find his arguments for the universe and all of us as ONE to be compelling and completely consistent with my personal discoveries through a decade long meditation practice as well as experience with plant medicines.

Arguments of a spiritualistic world view were good
All of the arguments for adopting a spiritualistic over materialistic world view in explaining the nature of our world were well done. I took a star off an otherwise 5 star book because the author, as a member of academia, clearly leans a little left and attempted to make the assertion that capitalism is somehow responsible for the materialistic/atheistic world view, which is absurd, in my opinion. The finger should be pointed directly at his colleagues in academia that have pushed spiritualism out of the mainstream in their unending quest of materialism and anti- capitalism.
