Acerca de esta escucha

Jeffery Deaver, "the master of manipulation" (Associated Press) and "the most creative, skilled and intriguing thriller writer in the world" (Daily Telegraph, UK), returns with the new, long-awaited Kathryn Dance thriller.

A tragedy occurs at a small concert venue on the Monterey Peninsula. Cries of "fire" are raised, and, panicked, people run for the doors only to find them blocked. A half dozen people die, and others are seriously injured. But it was the panic and the stampede that killed; there was no fire.

Kathryn Dance - a brilliant California Bureau of Investigation agent and body-language expert - discovers that the stampede was caused intentionally and that the perpetrator, a man obsessed with turning people's own fears and greed into weapons, has more attacks planned. She and her team must race against the clock to find where he will strike next before more innocents die.

Great story line. Great ending. I can't
wait for the next book in the series.

Jeffery Deaver Does it Again

I always enjoy Jeffery Deaver's stories and this one did not disappoint. Keeps you guessing and has a bit of romance to add.

Another Entertaining Deaver Novel

Disappointed. Okay for a mystery/thriller, but not one by Deaver. Some of the subplots seemed unnecessary.

Weak

Kept me listening
Had many twists and turns so you were never sure where it was going

Punt

I didn't anticipate the twists and turns and the unexpected in this novel. It was engaging and I never would have guessed any of the outcomes. Devo the way I like him. The narrator was excellent.

Satisfying to say the least

If you could sum up Solitude Creek in three words, what would they be?

Just when you think you can predict what will be next, another twist gets thrown in. This one takes so many, you have to pay attention to every word. Nothing turns out the way you think it will. The final twist will really leave you hanging.

Any additional comments?

Don't want to leave any spoilers.

Brilliant twists and turns

...poorly revealed. I really like Catherine Dance, which naturally leads to me liking all of Deaver's works featuring her. Deaver is famous for engineering several major twists in his mysteries. That is not the case here. In Solitude Creek he shows his genius for surprise through revelations, explaining what has transpired after the fact. I found that dissapointing. That is why I said it is brilliant police work, poorly revealed.

Nevertheless it a really good mystery with outstanding characters. And its expertly narrated.

Smart Police Work...

Although I generally liked this book, I believe that with some tighter editing, this book could have been a lot better. "The Sleeping Doll" was my introduction to Kathryn Dance. I was at once a fan. I liked that it was harder edged than "Solitude Creek". For me, because of so much of the filler relationship content, "Creek" kept slipping into romance novel mode. At times I could hardly believe it was Deaver doing the writing. And although January LaVoy did an adequate job, I much prefer the narration of Anne Twomey. Maybe it was January that gave it that romance novel feeling. Liked it - didn't love it.

OK, but not his best

This is a first rate story with plenty of twists and turns that keeps the listener fully engaged. Ms LaVoy is an exceptional reader who is able to modify her voice with the applicable gender, age, and dialect nuances that add so much to the pleasure of the listener.

Great Plot Pacing and Narrator

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful mystery. The concept of the antagonist in the main story was intense and mesmerizing. You also got nicely involved in the protagonists life. The secondary story was gripping as well, since by then you'd invested time in it. And of course the solution was surprising!

Gripping and involved.
