Acerca de esta escucha

Brought to you by Penguin.

Perfect period detail and rapturously romantic from one of the best-known and beloved romantic novelists.

Even as a 14-year-old orphan, Simon Beauvallet knows his own mind. Later, friend and foe alike will know better than to cross the flaxen-haired mountain of a man whose exploits in battle have earned him knighthood, lands and gilded armour.

After Agincourt, he has no equal save the king himself in generalship - until his legendary prowess is baulked by a woman. In Normandy, the icy rage of Simon the Coldheart must melt - or quench Lady Margaret, spitfire of Belremy.

Best of Heyer’s historical romances

I have loved this story since I first read it many years ago. Now I have enjoyed it anew with this wonderful narrator! Well done!

Too long before love interest introduced

Loved Simon's and Margaret's personalities. The bond between Simon, Alan & Jeffrey made the this tale wonderful. Have a new narrator to admire. great job all around.

Exciting plot, Swooning Romance

Georgette Heyer had me biting my lips again with this one. It's a very long start to get to the romance, be warned, but she always so masterfully creates the cake of plot upon which to place a topper of romance!! The fighting and battle scenes were so exciting, I felt like I shouldn't be listening in the car for fear of trying to joust with oncoming traffic. The first half of the book details Simon the Coldheart's early life (including some war time), but it gives such a good look at his character and that of those around him that I was glad for every moment (and I like battle scenes, besides). The first glimpse of romance, even though it was between two side characters (who also had a super sweet love), had me legit screeching. Heyer's dialogue (as always) is so masterful, the archaic way of speech for the 1400s was so interesting, and the performance of both by the narrator was fantastic!! Different voices for all characters, and soft, pleasant voices for the women, and varied accents and good French pronunciation... ack, I was smiling the whole time!

Was Georgette Heyer an adult when she wrote this?

So silly and immature. I can’t believe Heyer wrote this or ever would have wanted it published! She must be rolling in her grave with embarrassment. I am her biggest fan so I read the whole dumb book but I guess even great writers have their failures. I seriously think she must have been 13 or younger when she wrote this.
