WARNING: THIS BOOK IS SHOCKING!

Christmas Eve, 1971... Five-year-old Billy Chapman witnessed his parents brutally murdered by a man disguised as Santa Claus, leaving him and his little brother to be raised in a strict Catholic orphanage ruled by the sadistic Mother Superior.

December, 1984... Eighteen and finally on his own, Billy sets out to live a normal life. Landing a job at the local toy store, he’s forced to play Santa Claus for the holiday season. Still in his red suit at the employee Christmas party, Billy snaps, going on a violent rampage, punishing all those he deems “naughty.” Now, with one last gift to deliver, Billy makes his way back to the orphanage, where he has an axe to grind with Mother Superior.

Naughty. Very... naughty!

New outlook on a slasher classic.

So the negative part of this is that the author filled in gaps in the original story with things I feel the original scrip and story writter would have never approved of and went in directions that weren't necessary which made the story unbelievable. This Author went way overboard with sexually explicit material which really didn't make the story any better. I am by no means a puritan or prude and I believe there is a time and place for sexual explicit storyline.....This was not one of them. I feel the Author went way overboard on the sexual aspect almost to the point of this being pornagraphic. it did NOT help the story in any way. So on the other hand , if you can get past the graphic nature of the sexual stuff , the story does take on a life of its own. It does stay pretty true to the original motion picture with a fresh new outlook and fills in the gaps with sometimes very interesting and clever details. all in all I would give this book a positive review. but be for warned this is not appropriate for younger readers (listeners) or anyone who may be sensitive to graphic depictions of sex.

Edgelord Remake of the Original Classic

The author basically recreates everything from the film but fills out the parts we didn't see and the thoughts of the characters with as much depravity as he can come up with. It makes for an interesting read if you're a fan of the original film, but I feel like it misses out on what makes the original film work. In this version essentially every character is a perverted freak in secret, especially the character of Sister Margaret, who is really the only character who truly cares about the lead character in the original film and is turned into a pretty disgusting person in this. I'm not a prude by any stretch but a lot of this added material just comes off as misogynist and unnecessary.

The original film is shocking at times and pushed the envelope for it's day but it also has genuine sympathy for its lead character and balances the uglier moments of the film with humor and some genuine sentimentality at times. I feel like the author could have used this opportunity to develop the characters and their background more but they instead opted to fill it with as much heinous stuff as they could come up with and even though some of it is amusing, it adds nothing significant to the story overall.
