Her dark eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned the space with a blend of analytical precision and instinctive empathy. She had learned long ago that evidence often whispered rather than shouted. Every surface, every meticulously arranged artifact, was a potential clue.
As she approached the scene, her gaze locked onto details others might overlook—a faint smudge on a mirror’s edge, a subtle distortion in a reflection, the uneven dance of light on shattered glass. These breadcrumbs, insignificant to an untrained eye, could lead her to the truth.
The air was thick with industrial polish and something more acrid a metallic tang that clung to the atmosphere, unmistakable in its implications. Blood had been spilled here. The setting gleaming surfaces, curated perfection—stood in stark contrast to the brutality of the crime. It suggested deliberate intention, a message in blood against a backdrop of beauty. The killer had not chosen this place at random. The positioning of the mirrors, the deliberate yet chaotic scattering of shards it was all part of a riddle, left for those keen enough to decipher.
Claire’s thoughts were interrupted by the forensic team’s arrival, their efficiency contrasting with the gravity of the scene. As they worked, she stepped back, absorbing the larger picture, knowing the truth often lurked in the periphery. Claire had seen enough to know this was no ordinary crime. It was a message. And the killer was waiting for someone like her to decipher it.
