Who is Jesus Christ?
You've never met him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet.
The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross.
Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do his will, and you will see the truth of his son.
John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.

This 1769 edition is highly sought after due to being more reader/listener friendly than the 1611 since many typos were fixed.... Great book but narrator makes it unbearable
Due to the sheer volume of scripture references, and also due to the narrator’s complete, stoic disconnect from the material, it’s like Charlie Brown’s teacher every time he cites a scripture. “[book], (pause),chapter [x], (pause), verse [y]” - do you really have to repeat “chapter” and “verse” so slowly EVERY citation?!?! That makes it SO difficult to not get constantly distracted. But the book is great. I’d recommend not the Audible version. Please don’t fire the guy just make him read books he seems to care about.

Book Excellent; Narrator Eh...
Love this book... but the narrator changes A LOT of words (I follow along in a physical book while I listen to audiobooks). This is a problem with many of the books this narrator has done. He has a nice voice, but he either needs to pay better attention to what he's reading or, perhaps, STOP thinking that he knows what the book "should have said" (especially when it comes to the caliber of the authors whose works he reads). The people who only listen to these audios won't realize that Piper actually didn't write what they're hearing in many places.
