Outstanding except for the last 30 minutes!

get rid of the bible lesson at the end-- you can talk about spirituality without preaching jesus-- I still gave it five stars because it was an exceptional story but the preachy ending was incredibly disappointing and almost ruined the story line

I could not stop listening. I experienced every emotion with this book. Beautiful and painful story! Wow. Just wow.

For help in learning to forgive

This story has helped me in my quest to learn to forgive others. If anyone has what I conceive to be a “right to not forgive,” it would be the Jewish and other people who went through WW2. This story leads to a great conclusion and includes Corrie Tenboom .

I loved the heartfelt prayer at the end above all else, very moving and true to many areas of my own life.

Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Soul filling. Cathy Gohlke can write! Gorgeous tale of love, sacrifice, betrayal, and forgiveness during the cruelties and life changing events of WWII. This book is not to be missed! Narration was some of the best I've ever heard. Spot on. Highly Recommended.

Loved it!

I learned so much about German WWII history that was never covered in classes in public school. I have also read the Hiding Place. Including reference to that book was wonderful.

Thoughts….

I’m disappointed in the increasing number of narrators who are incapable of carrying off a foreign accent. Sigh…
The story was amazing, waaay better than I would’ve ever anticipated! Really pulled in by both characters. A unique take on a work of historical fiction, and sadly, I’m suspect events that happened frequently. I thought character development was interesting.
That said, here’s what happened (from my point of view). I’m reading this incredible, captivating, intriguing, edge-of-your-seat book for the first 30 chapters….then in the last hour or so, it got *insanely* annoying with religion, praying, faith….blah blah. I suddenly felt as if I’d gone to a faith revival. Like, where did that come from?? I felt it was totally inappropriate, and shoved in as some last minute idea. Couldn’t take it!

This will be one of my treasured books I've ever listened too....was hoping to listen to another one of her books but I guess it's not out on audible yet...anxious awaiting!!!

Really good until it turned into a bible lesson

It was a thoughtful and compelling read. I could have done without the 20 minute sermon at the end. It just seemed like it was added on the end.

Another story of the challenges of Hitler & the Nazi's with the utter grief of Trying To Live thru it all! So Much pain, toil, heartache just to TRY to stay alive. True, Forgiveness & Love are ALL True Art of Humanity!!
