Vanguard systems are interactive and evolving for enhanced performance and operations in service to the core programming and core mission of the Vanguard. The Vanguard itself is sentient when all systems are operational. Searching the Vanguard: Colony Ship Vanguard, Book 4. More adventureon a colony ship. This is good "lost in space" sci-fi (remember that old tv series) and it's more about the ships crew interactions - no aliens in this one. A good adventure tale..
John Thorntons series has re-ignited my love of sci-fi.
