Excellent

Anne Tyler is a master
I’ve read every book she’s ever written and in some cases, more than once. She is the kind of writer who makes you unaware that anyone is writing at all. Her sentences are seamless. Love her and love this beautiful book about family and redemption.

The “Our Town” feel
Anne Tyler books always leave me wanting to continue “living” with the her fictional families. It’s like looking down on a typical messy family from above with a perspective that can help you appreciate the poignancy and importance in all the little moments in the day to day life of family.

Realistic depiction of family relationships
Once again the author’s intelligent, keen ability to develop characters is evident here. She is a true master! I am generally disappointed in the endings though, as some things are left open for me; like questions I have when it’s over. :)

Hard to listen to
This was one of my favorite novels from when I was a teenager. I thought it might be fun to revisit the Bledsoe’s as an adult and as an audiobook, but it was so robotic I couldn’t get past it.
