The Jon Ryan of the distant future has an uncontrollable knack for mischief.

Now it's really gotten him in trouble. If the universe had a principal's office, he'd be sitting outside it for the next million years! They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Look that up, and you'll find Jon's picture in the Wikipedia article. After the evil clan no-time Earth, he simply wanted to restore his home world. And Jon did, but was he satisfied? No. Then he decided to try to repair that timeline to the exact one it had originally been. Talk about a harebrained notion.

In the meantime, in the new timeline here at home, a bizarre and unstoppable threat is heading toward Earth. Gigantic building superstructures cruising through space are destroying star systems and using the raw materials left over to make copies of themselves. No civilization, no matter how advanced, has been able to even slow their progress. Facing certain destruction, a desperate future version of Dr. Toño DeJesus risks teaming up with the new-timeline human version of himself. They hatch a plan to save humankind so ludicrous that it just might work. In the post-resurrection timeline, there is, of course, a version of Jon Ryan. With the original Jon off on his crazy quest, the two scientists decide to talk the new Jon into becoming an android. Then—like his counterpart before him—he can save our collective bacon.

Why would two intelligent men of science think the new Jon, a veritable rookie, could save us? Well, because their plan includes placing a backup copy of the future Jon in the present one's head. The Toños figure two Jons are not only better than one, but that combination alone could potentially stop the juggernaut Earth faces. And no, neither Toño was drunk when they came up with this scheme, but dealing with the new Jon may well drive them to drink. He's as impossible to handle as his namesake. But, if humans are to survive as a species, it's Jon Ryan to the rescue or it's curtains.

Now, no overly-complicated, absurd scheme can be too convoluted, right? Yeah, so the new Jon Ryan's interactions with his older copy yield a most unexpected twist. If the old Jon is to help the younger one, they must first save the present-day copy of his wife, Sapale. She's about to be executed on Kaljax. How many saves can Team Ryan pull off? Even if the younger Sapale can be freed, how are the Jons going to stop the mean buildings in space? Confused yet? Well, they sure are.

Strong Narration, Story Lacking

I’ve loved every previous book in the Ryanverse, but this one felt unfinished, rushed, and overall lacking that magical substance the others had. I’m sure I could write more, but I’ll leave this as unfinished as I feel this installment is and hope another will make up for it in the future.

Lacking

I have to start with I have enjoyed the Ryanverse series since I stumbled upon it. Even after starting out of order and then going back to the beginning I was hooked. But this one was a disappointment. At times it was rushed and I’m sorry to say but I had to force myself to continue through at times. I do hope that he will continue the journey but somehow bring the stories back to the original universe somehow because it was getting interesting then the universe ended and here we are in a new one that not right. Now don’t get me wrong the series as a whole has been great till this point, waiting to see what the future holds.

the narrator was amazing as always! the story I mean it was a little tough the fact that he ended up with a different girl at the end and a biological sepel went with the Android Future Boy John structure was just no time Plez out of nowhere with the no time it was okay but because I love the author and the narrator I'll buy the next one also LOL keep them coming

I agree with the other people that have left reviews and agree that this one is a little bit slow and boring but I get the feeling he's going to be building up to something better or at least I hope that's the case.

Running thin.

He clearly doesn’t want to engage a bigger story. The time wars series has been thin but this one was vapid. Not sure I’ll invest in another. I just so love the Ryan character that it’s hard to let go. Please don’t milk that loyalty. Write something good with jeopardy and twists and all that good plot stuff.

Way too many inconsistent plot lines.

The plot and ending quite frankly were just bad. By far the worst book of the series. It’s like it went on and on and then decided we should just end the book.

Too Much Banter

As with all his books and especially the later ones, there’s too much banter inside conversation that goes in circles. This is beginning to look like a lot of filler material it doesn’t add anything and it’s frustrating to the listeners and readers. The tracks from an otherwise enjoyable book. I still read this book highly because this series in a few others are my main interest on Audible.

ok but comes off a rushed.

Narrator as usual did a great job, but as for the story, I would have to say I was let down big time. Seemed rushed, and (SPOILER ALERT) if the Timeless Void is 6 books like the others, then he left a big part of this series unresolved.

Losing the plot

The last few books have been waning in quality. There are more and more inconsistencies, the plot more and more outlandish (not in a good way), and rushed third acts.

but i mean seriously why keep john locked up for two fking books i absolutely loved these series until now but all this just seems rushed. especially with all the non stop excuses on why he cant be let out. it was even mentioned that it was a special type of hell. sapale and john is dead in the other universe for all we know and there is a whole lot that is unresolved. the narrator was great but this all definitely could have been better
