Stephen Chambers once loved a woman, but the ruin of his family's finances and a horrible tragedy have now led him to close off his heart to love. Living in the woods among friends, he vows to avenge the death of his mother, killed by the hands of bandits. When he finds Constance and her sisters in trouble, he comes to their aid and then offers them an opportunity for safety in his camp.
Fearing that her stepfather will find her, Constance decides to trust Stephen and remains in the woods with him. As the two grow close, old feelings arise in Constance and ignite a new desire brought on by the most delicious of kisses. Yet, doubts soon arise concerning her heart and her faith in Stephen, for her mother had warned her that Rogues Always Wear Black.
Stephen understands how he feels about the woman, yet he also fears that which he must eventually confront will only hurt her. His choice is simple - either follow his heart, which leads to Constance, or continue holding on to his need for revenge.

Bless their hearts
The cadence and high pitch of the narration was so irritating that I had to change to 3x speed just to get through it. I want to believe that if the narrator had been better I could have liked the characters and not dwelled so much in their idiotic mistakes and spacey attitudes. Makes one want to be a better parent so that their girls don’t grow up this stupid.

Great Historical Romance!
This is the first book in the Forbidden Kisses Series, a sweet British Historical Romance. The characters are amazing, and the storyline is fast paced, filled with adventure. Aubrey Elson did a great job with the narration. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Rakes Always Kiss First, Mary's story. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
