Acerca de esta escucha

The dramatic events of the Egyptian Revolution hide nefarious revenge. English teacher at the American University of Egypt, Barbie, discovers her mobile phone is dead, as well as the internet shut off. It is then that she realizes that the demonstrations of the last three days in Tahrir are more serious that any that had occurred before. While chasing her runaway cat, she discovers the body of the assistant bowab (doorman) in the alley behind the apartment building, a cheap souvenir knife plunged deep into his chest. The next day, another mysterious death is brought to light, that of a colleague at AUE. She and the fellow inhabitants of Hatshepsut’s Mansions, an apartment building in Zamalek, the upscale neighborhood situated on Gezira Island, join the millions who daily flock to the iconic Tahrir Square to demand the resignation of their ‘pharaoh.’ Barbie feels compelled by the death of the 12-year-old Ahmed to investigate the seemingly related deaths, but has no one in authority to turn to, as the police have disappeared. Barbie must decipher her dead student’s diaries, enlist the aid of a handsome, but mysterious, Egyptian antiquities dealer and sift through the rumors that swirl around the close-knit university community. Her investigations take her through the streets of Zamalek, the crowded alleys of the Kahn el Khalili, and the neighborhoods around and behind the teeming, seething anger of the crowds in Tahrir Square.
