If you like bad-boy heroes, western settings, and a sexy, sassy heroine you will love Jennifer Ryan's newest Wild Rose Ranch book! Perfect for fans of Diana Palmer, Linda Lael Miller, and Jodi Thomas.
One minute down-on-his-luck rancher Austin Hubbard slept soundly, the next, a sassy spitfire dumped a pitcher of water on his head and woke him up - in more ways than one. Hired to help him rebuild his ranch, Sonya Tucker ends up helping him put the tattered pieces of his life back together. The capable, all-business accountant is on a mission to get the ranch up and running, but can he convince the temptingly beautiful woman to take a chance on him?
Sonya was dismayed that Austin had lost it all: money, family, respectability. Things she - who’d been raised by her mother at Nevada’s notorious brothel Wild Rose Ranch - only dreamed about. But working with the long, lean cowboy shows her that Austin is honorable to his core. Together they slowly grow to see what the love between them might bring.
But then Austin’s powder keg of a family feud explodes, exposing long-buried secrets, and threatening their new-found love…

This Wild Rose Ranch installment had an added mystery to discover. Why does Mr. Hubbard want Austin's land to the point that he would shame fire and harm others to get it. Narcissistic was not the only word that comes to mind when think of Mr. Hubbard. He was just one of the secondary characters that make an impact in this story.
JR. makes some of the most interesting stories and makes her women strong determined and independent. Coleen Marlo brings them to life through voice tone diction and pitch.

Also, this is a slight spoiler but I can't get over the fact that Sonya's mom June was abused by her uncles as a child and into adulthood and very clearly has mental health issues. She's portrayed as childlike, even as an adult. And this book ends with a surprise wedding after June abruptly moves to be closer to Sonya, meets the local bank manager, and decides to start a family with him, all within what appears to be mere weeks. She's pregnant immediately and has an incredibly abrupt wedding. If Sonya had been taking care of her mom for so many years and knew that her mother had a childlike mind, why on earth would she be so happy to find out, on her mother's wedding day, that she's pregnant and getting married to a man June never once mentioned to Sonya? I just don't see it. I understand wanting to be happy for someone, especially your own mother, but when you've spent your life taking care of your mother because she couldn't take care of you or herself, in my opinion you wouldn't be ecstatic about any of that. You'd be cautious and want to ask that your mother slow down and take some time. The reasoning for the speedy baby and marriage is that her mother isn't getting any younger, and while I can understand that, her mental health should have been the priority of everyone involved. It just doesn't sit right with me that it wasn't.
