On Jupiter's moon, Callisto, a mysterious Recovery Man kidnaps Rhonda Shindo after he terrorizes and then abandons her brilliant 13-year-old daughter, Talia. While authorities on Callisto search for Rhonda, her employers at the Aleyd Corporation try to gain custody of Talia. Somehow, Callisto authorities realize, she's part of the crime, even though she was left behind.

Meanwhile, Miles Flint is having a crisis of his own. In his murdered mentor's files lies a long-held secret, one that could change his life. His investigation of the secret leads him to the Aleyd Corporation, into the middle of the search for Rhonda Shindo, and to a case that threatens the entire legal system that enables the Earth Alliance to function.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Rusch has a knack for creating interesting characters and a future that moves and breathes." (The PhiladelphiaWeekly Press)
"Top 10 Greatest Science Fiction Detective Novels of all Time." (io9.com)
"Here's Rusch's genius: She doesn't confine herself to the rules of any one genre. She does world-creation and social criticism like the best sci-fi writers; she creates crime stories that would be best episodes on Law & Order or CSI; and she creates stories of human relationships that rank her with the finest character writers working today." (Orson Scott Card)

I've listened to all 6 books in the Retrieval Artist series and enjoyed them all. The characters are interesting and easy to come to care about, despite their flaws. The futuristic story line is interesting, but still believable. The narrator does a great job, too. I hope there will be more in this series.

I find this series of books very entertaining. It keeps you guessing all the way to the end. I look forward to listening to more books about Miles Flint. I agree with the other reviewer, he has become a friend.

The books are very easy to listen to, easy to follow. The descriptions are wonderful and in my mind, I feel I see them as the writer intended.

I am ready for the next adventure with Miles

I've really enjoyed this series so far. I like the characters and the universe. While much of the set up to this point has been extreme at times I always enjoyed it. Examples would be how Flint seems to be the best at almost everything he does, smarter than everyone, not to mention a super hacker etc.

But overall that has been fun. While I still enjoyed this book I was annoyed by how it turns so much plot on it's ear from the previous books. It intertwines so many layers from previous books that I think were better left as character development rather than future plot.

Don't get me wrong it is still a very good book, but both not as good as some of the past ones and foreshadows future events in a way I am not currently looking forward to.

As always though Jay Snyder does an excellent job bringing the written words to life.

Too much coincidence

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This was not the best book in the series. I think she is stretching these book out too much. Not enough content here.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was a little disappointing. I thought I had more time in the audiobook, then all at once it was done. It felt like part one of a two part book.

Stretching

Any additional comments?

The book was good. Interesting backstory. But about half of the material was reused from a previous book, so it gets to be a bit boring listening to the same stuff again. Wish there was more original content..

Good book, but most of the material is reused

Fun little story! closes a few loops, but could have explained more stuff about Rhonda at the end.

Another planetary romp for our Simon Baker-like team Lunar PI

As you read this review please understand that as a whole I believe The Retrieval Artist Series is one of the best that I have found in a long time. As a long time sci-fi nut and retired police officer I found that I could relate to the characters very well. I even found myself bring up suggestions as Noel and Miles did their thing. I could not wait for the next audiobook to come out. Unfortunately for me the Recovery Man left me hanging. I really did not get a true since that the story ended. All of the bad guys were taken care of in true Kristine fashion but the bringing together of the 2 main characters toward then end could have been smoother.

The auther is very imaginative with some great details of different life in a sci fi world of creatures and races. The reader has an awesome voice so it's easy to get invovled with the story, leaving you wondering what next! Great buy to start a series you'll enjoy.

Outstanding sci fi beginning

I really like these books, and think Miles and the other characters are worth following. But there's so much discussion of internal states, twisting and clenching of stomachs, and recitation of backstory that I find myself sometimes telling the narrator to just move on instead of dwelling incessantly on some of the details. Perhaps an abridged version would be more enjoyable. Nevertheless, I look forward to the next installment, having discovered some surprising information about Miles and his family. The narration is good, too.

Too much instrospection

Where does Recovery Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great series, great book - start at the beginning and just run through them all. Second best audio series I've listened to - only comparion is the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series by Nathan Lowell.

Love this series!
