So many thousands of books deifying Abraham Lincoln have been published that it is nearly impossible for the average citizen to learn much of anything that is truthful about Lincoln’s presidency. You’ll learn that the real reason why Lincoln launched an invasion of his own country (he never admitted that secession was legal or legitimate) was to destroy the voluntary union of the founders and replace it with a coerced union held together by violence and threats of violence, much more like the old Soviet Union than the original American union.

Used this as part of my resources for my senior seminar CAPSTONE related to the dissolution of the Freedmen's Bureau, and a wealth of related content within. Maybe not the most exciting narrator, but I come for the content.

Must Read
I cannot imagine a better book to read if one wishes to get their mind around the vexing and complicated USA history of abuse, moralism, piously-declared innocence, and self-fulfilling prophecies by which white communities cemented their political domination over black citizens in the latter years of the 19th C. Many of the political trends and attitudes here (exhaustively documented and cogently argued) are alive and well today, informing everything from current urban and labor policy to the white angst underlying support for the 45th US president. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
