Entering Faerie is enough of a risk, never mind trying to free a changeling. That's never been done before, but that's exactly what has to happen if I'm going to rescue my best friend. So when I run into a half-blood thief who offers to help, I can't exactly say no. I mean, the guy seriously hates the fae. After all, one of them knocked up his mother.

Digging deeper into the labyrinthine fae city kingdom, we soon start to unravel a mystery I never could have imagined. Namely, how it came to be that just a few fae now control all of the magic in their world. We also learn that some of the missing humans have been spotted. Not my friend, but we must be getting closer.

But when I get waylaid by fae slave traders, find myself stripped of magic and held captive in a noble house, and discover a secret that might turn the tables of magical power in Faerie, I end up with way more than I bargained for. But I also seem to have caught the eye of a stunningly handsome fae lord. Hard to resist. And who knows? Maybe he could come in handy. Because right now it's down to me, and I'm up against a ticking clock. It's either escape or die knowing that the next stop for fae magical conquest is the human realm.

Engrossing and cant wait for the next one.

New and exciting well written and captivating. Love the voice of the reader. She is as engrossing as the words. She brings the characters to life.

Fast Paced but detailed

This story is pretty fast paced but there’s no lack of details. I just wish Cassie wasn’t so impulsive. The narrator is one of my favorites. Headed to book three.

Great continuation …

This is the seventh book I have read/listened to by this author. This book picked up where the first one left off-Cassie is going to the fae realm to look for her friend and finds much more than she bargained for, (including some of the humans reported to be missing yet not). The majority of this book is in this realm so we start to get a good glimpse into how the society there works.
Cassie learns of a third realm, gets caught by slavetraders and forced into service with a noble family. With her magic gone she needs to find out why, how to get it back and how to help the people trapped in the fae realm. Not to mu ch to ask for right?
I really enjoy how things take a logical path in this story so far- no super convenient moments of unreasonable luck. I love Cassie’s no bs attitude and ‘this is gunna suck but here we go’ approach to things.
This is the second book I have listened to by this narrator. She performs not reads this book. Her emphasis and expression is perfect and brings out the personalities of every character. I would in a heartbeat listen to another book narrated by her.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive / overly descriptive violence, there is a bit of minor swearing.
I downloaded this as a free book offered with my membership on audible and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Good listening

I have enjoyed this fiction story and will follow the rest of the series. Thank you for the good read

The narrator is the best part of this book

This story has a trilogy worth of flashbacks. I stopped reading several times to look and see if this was a sequel to another series and not just book 2. The author begins this book months after the protagonist gets her body back, something that isn't a part of book 1's plot. The author tells us more about what happened to her before book 1 including body snatching, body sharing, her twin sister and her psychic investigator boyfriend almost dying twice searching for her, and that the protagonist and her twin sister are veil witches which were thought to not exist. That's ALOT of flashbacks and explanations for book 1 in a series. What actually happens, the actual plot is not very interesting and I'm not sure if there is a third book or not but the ending is either 3/4ths mission failure, or a cliffhanger. The characters have generic personalities,

What is wrong with writing a badass female lead? Do these authors not understand what actual badass is??

Ok authors, FEMALE AUTHORS, If you are trying to write a great book, how about making a badass female character that’s, you know, actually badass? They make you think this is the books overview and maybe even in the first couple paragraphs m but then girl meets boy and BAM she’s an idiot. Can’t make a decision without getting in trouble, oops I just did that when I totally had no idea, and now I hate having this power or I can’t have the boy because I got to other revenge things but oh how I like him. This. I’m so tired of this. And it seems ALL the books are like this. I need some Kate Daniels badass. It seems like books written by men authors seem to put their female lead in a better light. Instead of being a whiny child that throws fits because she doesn’t want to do something.
