Among consenting adults, family should be a matter of choice and the configuration thereof should be the choice of the family members. There are between 50,000 and 100,000 families in the U.S. living in polygamy today. Recently, these numbers began to climb rapidly as certain Christian, Islamic, and secular groups seek ways to live according to their convictions, in spite of federal and state laws. The growth is accelerating at a surprising rate. Yet, there are few resources and little information to help those seeking happiness in this way of life. This book is a primer for those wishing to seek fulfillment outside the confines of monogamy. As people search for and find their own happiness, the population practicing polygamy will soon grow large enough to have a voice loud enough to change the laws of the land from within. Polygamy may be the next movement in the search for individual freedom and happiness.

Polygamy: The act of having more than one spouse. A husband having more than one wife or wife having more than one husband is called polygamy. Polygamy is a general term and exists in three specific forms: polygyny, polyandry, and polyamory. Polygyny: When a man has multiple simultaneous wives, the state is specifically called polygyny. You will also hear the term, “Plural Marriage” or “Celestial Marriage” used by the FLDS church when one husband has several wives. Polyandry: When a woman has multiple simultaneous husbands it is specifically called polyandry. Polyamory: Group marriage, where the family unit consists of multiple husbands and multiple wives, is specifically called polyamory. This book will look at polygamy, its forms, functions, history, logistics, strengths and pitfalls.

Holly Holt made me wish I had hair to pull out.

Well written but the reader mispronounced almost every name and theological term. I recommend it just know how she says peoples names will get you laughed at if you do it around people who know how to pronounce them.

This book may interest academics or researchers!

This book provided thorough history of the subject evidence of the subject mentioned and practiced overtime. However, the story was missing the opportunity to humanize the people living and the practice of the subject. The listings of the research/evidence made the book difficult to experience the overall content in the book. As a researcher and academic, I respect the thorough content. As a practitioner, it wasn’t an ideal read and unclear how to apply the guidance in practice.

A little disappointed

I was really looking forward to the portion on PolyANDRY and it was only given part of 1 chapter. Chapter 15. It really let me down as far as going in depth. There was too much religious influence,excepts, and not even one real world example from practicing couples. In the end it was still worth it to gain a bit more knowledge. Just not as much as I was hoping.

A wonderful in depth look at poly relationships.

It went in depth,throughout history,religion and culture to the many places that nonmonogamy was practiced.

Lots of religious content

I was expecting an unbiased, in-depth review and analysis of non traditional relationship strategies. Although it does cover most of them, this book has a lot of its content devoted religious polygyny. Although it is well written, I would recommend finding another audiobook. Too much of its content is devoted to sectarian poly relationships.

mostly about quoting religious texts, not useful

I was hoping this title would be informative, and looking at religious history and how it shapes today's couple life, is useful.
But when it was chapter after chapter and sometimes quoting scripture for way too long, I really lost interest.
I kept skipping to the next chapter, which would then end up doing the same.
There is a little bit of non scripture related stuff at the end, but way too short and not that useful.
