Acerca de esta escucha
After years of prosecuting hard-core criminals, rising legal star Alan Bell took a private sector job in South Florida's newest skyscraper. Suddenly, he suffered such bizarre medical symptoms, doctors suspected he'd been poisoned by the Mafia. Bell's rapidly declining health forced him to flee his glamorous Miami life to a sterile "bubble" in the remote Arizona desert.
As his career and marriage dissolved, Bell pursued medical treatments in a race against time, hoping to stay alive and raise his young daughter, his one desperate reason to keep going. He eventually discovered he wasn't poisoned by a criminal, but by his office building. His search for a cure led him to discover the horrifying truth: his tragedy was just the tip of the iceberg. Millions of people fall ill and die each year because of toxic chemical exposures - without knowing they're at risk.
Stunned by what he discovered, Bell chose to fight back, turning his plight into an opportunity. Despite his precarious health, he began collaborating with scientists dedicated to raising awareness about this issue. Soon, he also found himself drawn back into the legal field, teaming up with top lawyers fighting for those who had already fallen ill.
Both a riveting medical mystery and a cautionary tale, this book puts a human face on the hidden truths behind toxic dangers assaulting us in our everyday environments - and offers practical ways to protect ourselves and our children.

Historia
Mr. Griffin marshals the evidence that cancer is a deficiency disease like scurvy or pellagra aggravated by the lack of an essential food compound in modem mans diet. That substance is vitamin B17. In its purified form developed for cancer therapy, it is known as Laetrile. Why has orthodox medicine waged war against this non-drug approach? The author contends that the answer is to be found, not in science, but in politics, and is based upon the hidden economic and power agenda of those who dominate the medical establishment.

Historia
Jeanne Marie Laskas first met the young forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu in 2009, while reporting a story for GQ that would go on to inspire the movie Concussion. Omalu told her about a day in September 2002, when, in a dingy morgue in downtown Pittsburgh, he picked up a scalpel and made a discovery that would rattle America in ways he’d never intended. Omalu was new to America, chasing the dream, a deeply spiritual man escaping the wounds of civil war in Nigeria.

Lois Gibbs, Luella Kenny, and other mothers loved their neighborhood on the east side of Niagara Falls. It had an elementary school, a playground, and rows of affordable homes. In the spring of 1977, pungent odors began to seep into these little houses, and it didn’t take long for worried mothers to identify the curious scent. It was the sickly-sweet smell of chemicals.

Every 69 seconds, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Of the top 10 killers, it is the only disease for which there is no cure or treatment. For most people, there is nothing that they can do to fight back. But one family is doing all they can. The DeMoe family has the most devastating form of the disease that there is: early onset Alzheimer's, an inherited genetic mutation that causes the disease in 100 percent of cases, and has a 50 percent chance of being passed onto the next generation.

Historia
San Francisco's Laguna Honda Hospital is the last almshouse in the country, a descendant of the Hôtel-Dieu (God's hotel) that cared for the sick in the Middle Ages. Ballet dancers and rock musicians, professors and thieves - "anyone who had fallen, or, often, leapt, onto hard times" and needed extended medical care - ended up here. So did Victoria Sweet, who came for two months and stayed for 20 years. Laguna Honda, lower-tech but human-paced, gave Sweet the opportunity to practice a kind of attentive medicine that has almost vanished.

A riveting, powerful telling of the story of the grassroots movement of activists, many of them in a life-or-death struggle, who seized upon scientific research to help develop the drugs that turned HIV from a mostly fatal infection to a manageable disease. Ignored by public officials, religious leaders, and the nation at large, and confronted with shame and hatred, this small group of men and women chose to fight for their right to live by educating themselves and demanding to become full partners in the race for effective treatments.

The Chopra brothers were among the most eager and ambitious of the new generation. In the 1970s, they each emigrated to the United States to make a new life. Both faced tough obstacles: while Deepak encountered resistance from Western-trained doctors over what he called the mind-body connection, Sanjiv struggled to reconcile the beliefs of his birthplace with those of his new home. Eventually, each brother became convinced that America was the right place to build a life, and the Chopras went on to great achievements.

Poisoned was a fantastic read. First of all I absolutely loved the narrator‘s voice and the author has a fantastic and very important story to tell. The issue of toxicity is very close to my heart because I too have been affected by toxins.
It’s really was so informative to read and I love how the author has turned a terrible life experience into something so amazing that help so many people

Must Read
Where does Poisoned rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the very best and useful medical story books I have read.
What did you like best about this story?
Mr. Bell's establishment of the Environmental Health Foundation and helping others with his condition.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Mr. Bell took his first walk outside of his "bubble" in Arizona.
Any additional comments?
This is a must read for all clinicians and highly recommended for laypersons who know some one or are themselves suffering with multiple chemical sensitivity. This is a very real and quality of life (if not life itself) robbing condition which can be prevented if you are informed.

very fascinating personal story
from the beginning to the end an interesting view of 'weak constitution' that we always labeled people. it is heart wrenching and fascinating as it dispels the myth that people feign sickness. thanks, Alan.

The best documentary that I have ever read!
I was riveted by the true story and the message. We need to protect ourselves from our environment because the government won't and neither will anyone else who has bought into the propaganda that just because a product is on the store shelf, it's relatively safe. Think again! Alan Bell is my hero for advocating for those without money and power, thus without a voice to influence change. I never knew that there were so many toxins potentially poisoning us everyday such as mattresses, clothing treated with flame retardants, and pressed wood furniture. This book has inspired me to live more healthily tossing all of the. chemical cleaning products that I have and replace them with organic ones. I have taught for 25 years and am. positive the environmental factors have contributed to the rise of autism and ADHD.

Life altering story
This story reminds us that living the American Dream is meaningless if you don't have your health and your family. This is one man's incredible journey. When things were hopeless he fought to stay alive, fight for the lives of others and leave this planet better than he found it. Inspiring, informative and touching.
