Acerca de esta escucha

Picking up where her modern classic The Bean Trees left off, Barbara Kingsolver's best-selling Pigs in Heaven continues the tale of Turtle and Taylor Greer, a Native American girl and her adoptive mother who have settled in Tucson, Arizona, as they both try to overcome their difficult pasts.

Taking place three years after The Bean Trees, Taylor is now dating a musician named Jax and has officially adopted Turtle. But when a lawyer for the Cherokee Nation begins to investigate the adoption, their new life together begins to crumble.

Depicting the clash between fierce family love and tribal law, poverty and means, abandonment and belonging, Pigs in Heaven is a morally wrenching, gently humorous work of fiction that speaks equally to the head and to the heart.

Con calificación alta para:

The Story Is Praised For Its Heartwarming Narrative, Rich Character Development, Engaging Storytelling Style, And Authentic Representation Of Native American Culture, Particularly The Cherokee Nation. However, Some Readers Found The Plot To Be Predictable And The Pacing Slow At Times. The Narration Received Mixed Reviews, With Some Appreciating The Captivating Performance And Others Finding It Unsatisfactory. The Book Explores Themes Of Motherhood, Family, Cultural Clashes, Adoption, Belonging, Love, And Relationships, With A Focus On The Experiences Of An Adoptive Mother And Her Native American Child.

A perfect second novel.

I was so afraid to start this book thinking that Taylor and Turtle would be separated and the loving bond they have be broken. Definitely a masterpiece follow up with a caring end.

Wonderful Metaphors of Life

I laughed aloud walking down the street. I was sorry when it ended. I'm ready for the next book.

c j critt narrates this wonderfully. if you like americana, firat nation stories, social realism, family stories and / or feminist literature, this is something for you. kingsolver manages to balance the tragic and the comic in this delightful sequel to "the Bean Trees".

Loved it

Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite authors. I love the way she weaves the detail of nature into her stories. She is a master of human nature as well. The one thing I loved most about this book is the rich history of the Cherokee nation alongside a great warning story of an adoptive mother's love. Really great ending. CJ Critt's narration and interpretation was fantastic. I would listen to another book with this duo as a team.

A wonderful sequel to The Bean Tree

The author skillfully solves a sticky wicket involving an adopted Indian child, and a clash of cultures and parenting practices. The story accurately depicts the effects on a child subjected to abuse, neglect, alcoholism and domestic violence. In spite of the serious nature of the subject matter, the author manages to write an entertaining and heartwarming story. I highly recommend this book.

Lovely story.. narrator just okay..

I don’t love this narrator unfortunately, she also read the Bean Trees and I wanted to listen to the next one in the series so I didn’t have a choice. There are really long pauses between chapters and subject changes, I found it a little strange. Also her voice as Turtle did not sound like a little girl at all.. she sounded like a cartoon version of a small boy.

The story was lovely although very predictable.

All that’s said, you won’t be disappointed with it overall.

Heavenly Empathy

This book confirms my impression that Barbara Kingsolver is a real treasure. Her empathy for ...how do I say this?...people of meager privilege in a stratified society is reliable, illuminating, and welcome as a hug in hard times. Picking up the story of Turtle and Taylor, the story picks up speed and fascinating characters as it goes along. I also really appreciated CJ Critt's rendition of those characters.
