Tutto inizia quando, nel 1361, a Saragozza si scopre che orrendi mostri dalla testa di cane uccidono chiunque entri in possesso di un misterioso libro di magia, il Picatrix, mentre in cielo appaiono giganteschi dischi luminosi. sull'Africa mentre sta avvenendo un esodo di bambini di dimensioni apocalittiche. E mentre il professor Frullifer, in un manicomio delle Canarie, assiste allo strano comportamento di alcuni internati che, una volta l'anno, latrano come cani.
