Auf der Erde schreibt man das Jahr 1551 Neuer Galaktischer Zeitrechnung, gut dreitausend Jahre vom 21. Jahrhundert alter Zeitrechnung entfernt. Nach großen Umwälzungen in der Milchstraße haben sich die Verhältnisse zwischen den unterschiedlichen Sternenreichen beruhigt; im Großen und Ganzen herrscht Frieden.
Vor allem die von Menschen bewohnten Planeten und Monde streben eine positive Zukunft an. Tausende von Welten haben sich zur Liga Freier Galaktiker zusammengeschlossen, in der auch Wesen mitwirken, die man in früheren Jahren als »nichtmenschlich« bezeichnet hätte.
Trotz aller Spannungen, die nach wie vor bestehen: Perry Rhodans Vision, die Galaxis in eine Sterneninsel ohne Kriege zu verwandeln, scheint sich langsam zu verwirklichen. In dieser Situation kommt es zu Kontakten, mit denen niemand gerechnet hat. Abgesandte aus fremden Galaxien erreichen die Milchstraße; die neuen Besucher scheinen in einer engen Verbindung zur Erde zu stehen.
Um mehr über die Hintergründe herauszufinden, müssen Perry Rhodan und seine Gefährten in die ferne Sterneninsel reisen, in der das Goldene Reich existiert. Mit all ihren Aktionen lösen sie allerdings Ereignisse aus, mit denen weder sie noch ihre Besucher rechnen konnten...
