The final blow is a widespread opportunistic Chinese cyber attack, taking down the North American Power Grid. From the ashes, the Regime emerges. Liberty is dead. What remains of the United States of America is polarized. The Resistance Rises. Jack Berenger is a former Army Ranger Captain, living in northern Virginia with his family. Following the collapse, they fall foul of Regime violence and evacuate to the farm of an old Army friend. Jack is recruited into the resistance, to train the fledgling forces in the Shenandoah Valley. The fight begins. Live hard, Die Free. Resist.

Story is GREAT!

Great story, too bad it got somewhat ruined by the AI narrator with his “50 calorie” machine guns and other idiotic expressions! You’d think a publisher would be able to afford to pay someone to screen the audio product before releasing it!

Quality and realism of tactical details in story.

This is an excellent story, particularly for those that demand realistic depictions of combat.

Note: Naration by Virtual Voice has come along way in the last decade. However if you cannot deal with the occasional misspoke detail. For example ".50 calorie instead of .50 caliber," Then this may not be the correct version of this book. Consider the hardcopy or Kindle version.

Personally this doesn't detract from this excellent story in my opinion, hence I choose not remove a star from the performance rating.

the book was very good but the Ai was not that great if you can look pat it it's a pretty good read

Great listen. I love the details. The description of the combat jump made me feel the old rush and want to jump again.

virtual voice did a pretty bad job of decoration and it messed up several over of the acronyms

Outstanding and Accurate

While the AI narrator wasn’t the best, it’s not bad. The quality of the detailed story far outweighs the passable AI reading of it. I think it’s a great way for authors that can’t yet afford a professional narrator to get their books out there.

Virtual Voice was intriguing!

I read the actual book many moons ago. So I thought I’d revisit it now that I am mostly an Audible reader.
The virtual voice was intriguing. It sounded like Duke Fontaine..??
Clearly there were narrative errors that the VV messed up on. But if you are listening to this book then you knew what he meant (Ex: AC one hundred thirty = AC130 and 50 calories = 50 Caliber). So get past these quirks and you will not be disappointed!

Good thing it was free

AI narration I have found sucks. the author is not do a very good job with dialogue the book is mostly explaining everything. where there is dialogue it is very short and to the point. no back and forth no anything. the author also loves acronyms. author does not do a good job description of settings scenery sides say we're in a valley we're in a forest not very descriptive. he does pretty well with the battle layout and explaining that some stuff. it was a good thing the book was free because I probably would have called and got my credit back

Almost feels like a story we could be about to live through

I’ve waited for years to see this on audible and was excited to have the chance to listen to it as I had read it many years ago and loved it! Overall a great story with a knack for dropping in nuggets of accurate tactical knowledge throughout. Just about to start the second book, Patriot Rising, another great read!

Ai reading is terrible.

Ai makes many many mistakes throughout the. Story leaving you guessing sometimes as to what it’s trying to say. Absolutely unacceptable
