Acerca de esta escucha
At once an epic family drama and a sweeping love story that spans both an ocean and a generation, Palm Trees in the Snow is an emotionally gripping and historically vivid tale of the secrets that can destroy a family - and the bonds that endure.
When Clarence of Rabaltué discovers a series of old letters from her father's past, she begins to doubt everything she thought she knew about her once-noble family. Her father and his brother worked in the colony of Fernando Po, but these letters tell a different story than the tales of life in Africa that made it to the dinner table. Clarence has no idea what really went on during their time at the cocoa plantations - or why no one in her family has ever returned to the island in all the years since. But the letters suggest that a great love story is buried beneath the years of silence.
Setting out from her home in Spain's snowy mountains, Clarence makes the same journey across the sea that her uncle and father traveled before her. There, she unlocks the painful secrets her family has hidden in the rich African soil. But what she discovers may also be the key to awakening her own listless heart.

After her parents moved her and her brother to America, Preeti Desai never meant to tear her family apart. All she did was fall in love with a white Christian carnivore instead of a conventional Indian boy. Years later, with her parents not speaking to her and her controversial relationship in tatters, all Preeti has left is her career at a prestigious Los Angeles law firm. Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Historia
In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a Black African father and a White American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a Black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father - a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man - has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey - first to a small town in Kansas, from which he retraces the migration of his mother’s family to Hawaii, and then to Kenya, where he meets the African side of his family.

Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

Exhausting...
Too long, too many details, too much back and forth between times and people groups for me. It was well researched, but a bit overwhelming for me. Interesting family saga overall, but I got tired of so many problems.

Good story
The story was good. I surprised that the movie stuck close to the book. I expected the book to offer more than the movie, but it didn't. Still a decent read, though.

Lessons learned from living
The book started off a little slow and I was lost and thought maybe I should just stop and move on to another book but I am glad I stuck with this book because the story was wonderful. I was transported into another world where cultures clashed sometimes shamefully, I was given the gift to witness a love story than spans through all time , tragedy, heartbreak and happiness unfold. I was taken on a journey where the past meets the present and secrets unravel and forgiveness and understanding is found.

Breathless
I watched this movie many times. I stumbled across the book and enjoyed every minute of it. Of course the book and movie are different. I really enjoyed the story and the descriptions of Pasalobino and Fernando Po you really felt as if you were there. I also love the emotions that the characters had and expressed. This is my second favorite book of all
Times. I would listen to it again.

If you love the movie then the book will take your
What did you love best about Palm Trees in the Snow?
This is my favorite movie. I can watch it back to back to back. The book brought so much more. Yes, the story is a little different, but not too far off. A lot of research went into this and makes it feel more real.
What about Malcolm Hillgartner and Angela Dawe ’s performance did you like?
They both do an amazing job but I love Kilian in the book and in the movie so when Malcolm read I was more excited.
Any additional comments?
You must read this if you love historical romance fiction. I say watch the movie on Netflix first then read the book!

They are both wonderful
I first saw the movie on Netflix, and though it is a little different, it does a great job of telling the story.
This is my second time listening to the book. This love story is beyond a love story. This book is amazingly excellent, and I am grateful for the translation.
Please, everyone and anyone, listen to this beautiful narration.

Historical Romance
If you like romance and history plus learning about new cultures you'll love it. A lot of research went into the novel. Loved the narrator. Thought I'd check out the English dubbed movie on Netflix. Pretty disappointing after the book as so much of the explanatory background was eliminated. It's ok based on length of movie.
