A Wonderful Romance, a Fantastic Listen

I would happily give Our Song more stars if Goodreads would allow it. I finally get it when people say "It had all the feels". Our Song brought out all of the emotions. My journey was long, draining and wonderful.

Sadness poured from the pages as Sarah lost everything she had become in New York City. In the bright lights of the city her light dimmed. Her hopes were extinguished. Her life darkened. The Sarah she was would be no more.

Five years passed. Back home in small town California, Sarah goes through the motions. She teaches Kindergarten. She dresses conservatively. Sarah placates her Pastor father, changing who she was in a town where her father is everything. A new year. A new group of students. A new beginning.

Adam Jacobson will do anything for his little girl. Giving her a normal life has become his goal. That life begins in small town California, ruled by an ultra conservative Pastor with his daughter entering Sarah Russo's kindergarten class.

Best of all there was so much that wasn't expected. I wanted to cheer loudly as Sarah gained inner strength. I wanted to laugh and dance with Adam's sweet daughter, Cailin. I bawled sad tears. My eyes glistened with happy tears. I smiled brightly as all the characters grew emotionally. I gained strength along side them. I found myself crying like a girl having chocolate for the first time in years. It was pure bliss. I felt a great satisfaction.

The author gave me everything I didn't know I needed. I closed the book knowing the story and the characters would remain in my heart and in my thoughts. Lauren Runow out did herself when she wrote Our Song. I can't thank her enough for the amazing wonderful fantastic story.

Some great aspects, and missed the mark on others

I love a rockstar romance and when I read the blurb for this one, I thought I want to read it. Then I saw the rating and thought, maybe not However, I did take a further look and saw that it hadn't been rated many times, and only one bad one brought it down. So I went to Amazon and saw it had a lot of positive reviews and I had to give it a go.

Unlike many other books, the description that comes with the book is good and that is really what it was about. It was a lovely story about Sarah and Adam, along with his daughter Cailin. It wonderful how the relationship grew between them and kept getting stronger. Unlike many other romance books there wasn't the inevitable conflict, split and getting back together, so cliched. There was conflict but not the way you imagine.

So, the only thing that really bugged me about the story was all the religious talk. While I didn't think it was too bad, I think it missed the mark. There was an opportunity to really show how narrow-minded some communities can be, especially ones that hide behind the Church. I think Lauren Runow could have done a lot more with that or left it out. It was hinted on, but there could have been more. Just a thought.

The thing I really didn't like was the narration. I felt neither narrator was really good for this story. Madeleine Dauer had a stop start to her voice and it felt like she was just reading the lines. I didn't think Erik Bloomquist's voice suited Adam. That could just be me. I've heard both narrators before and have liked them, so not sure what went on with this one. Sort of helps explain why the Amazon book got better reviews than the audible.

I enjoyed the story and I'm glad I persisted through the narration. Don't think I could listen to it again, sadly as I thought it was a great story. It was worth the credit, but only just.

HEA all the way!!

I felt this was a great read. There is lots of happy. I loved the dynamic between the main characters.

Beautiful!

This was such a beautiful story. Full of so many feels. This was another one that I just had to hug my kindle when I was done. I love when authors make you fall so hard for a story. Ms. Runos has such a way with words. This is an absolute must read!

Adam and Sarah

Sweet, endearing and beautiful romance. Adam and Sarah are cute together, they each found something neither of them expected but sincerely deserved. I enjoyed going on this journey with them.

I don’t even know where to begin! This book was well written, with all the excitement of a rockstar romance, and yet all the charm of a single dad love story!!
A brilliant combination of characters including the oh so adorable Cailin who absolutely stole my heart.
There were moments of joy, tears & hurt making this an absolutely beautiful love story!
The narration was outstanding!!
I highly recommend this book!

This was great!

I loved the story! It was not your typical romance. The storyline was great. I loved how it depict that all things happen for a reason.

Male Narrator needs some work

The story was sweet. But the male narrators voice didn’t fit the character and it sounded like he read from a book the entire time.
