Their new home on Frederick Street in Clay Center, Kansas, was supposed to give writer Jonathan David and his husband, clinical psychologist Dr. Eddie Dorman, an opportunity to enjoy married life. Jonathan has just released his first major best seller, and he hopes to finally escape his traumatic past and find the quiet existence he has always craved. Eddie has taken a job at the Kansas State University psychology department, and they intend to begin anew.

They have barely settled in when the nightmare begins. Noises, disembodied voices, and mysterious apparitions make Jonathan's life hell. At first, Eddie cannot perceive the spectral events and fears for his husband's sanity. When he's also affected by the haunting, he's unsure of what to do but refuses to be beaten.

Together, they seek a way to fight the forces trying to tear them apart. The world is a frightening place, but confronting their fears plunges Jonathan and Eddie into absolute horror.

another amazing listen

this book was just as entertaining as the first one. the story was well written and the narrator brought the word to life for me. cant wait for more from F. E.

Past and present collide in this story. Jonathan and Eddie never imagined what they would find and go through in their new home. Could Jonathan be sick or is there a more sinister reason for what the two men are experiencing? Is their love strong enough to fight against what is happening or will the evil win?

This story is an emotional listen. Jonathan and Eddie fight for not only their love but their lives as well. Somehow the past has attached itself to the house and Jonathan. The author does a good job of mixing love and angst throughout this story. There is a lot of sadness and pain that all the characters in this story go through. Jonathan has lived through and survived his pain, but others have not. The two men must figure out just what is going on and how to stop it, but it won’t be easy, and evil does not want to let go. I enjoyed the bond that these two men have. Eddie and Jonathan fight together and for each other. With the help of friends and colleagues they will fight to end this and hope that love will win in the end. As much as I enjoyed this story, I would have liked to see what happened to Jonathan’s parents as well as the couple from the beginning of the book. Narrator Kaleb Cox does a nice job of giving these characters and their world to life. His narrative is clear and flowing and I was quickly immersed in their story right from the start.

A good read

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, but his generosity didn't influence my review.

The blurb makes this book sound like a horror novel, but the haunting is not all that scary. So, even if horror is a genre you avoid, you shouldn't avoid this book. However, although the supernatural aspects didn't bother me, the real-life themes upset me a lot. This story is really about two survivors of child abuse and how that trauma shaped who they are. A parent also dies (in flashbacks) and her illness is described in detail.

So, the material is heavy, and the characters are unhappy for most of the book. The depiction of Jonathan and Eddie's love for each other does temper the sadness, though. Their relationship is sweet, and while they do have a conflict in the middle of the story, it gets resolved pretty quickly. I also liked their fast friendship with their new neighbor, an older lady named Maggie. This version of small-town life overall feels real to me; Maggie knows almost everything about her old neighbors, and she's always been willing to help any way she can. In general all of the dialogue feels very natural to me.

Overall, the book is well written, with some lovely prose. The theme of abuse survivors helping each other find peace is interesting, and the author executed it with both skill and sensitivity. There is also an uplifting ending. I didn't have strong feelings about any of the major characters, but that was okay, since it's mainly a plot-driven book.

I recommend the audiobook. The narrator has a calm and ordinary delivery, and his performance really works well for such a serious book.

I haven't read the other books in this series, but this one stands alone. There's only a very short bit at the end which is completely unrelated to this book and probably ties it in to the series.

Emotional, thrilling and Amazing!

A haunting paranormal thriller. Emotional, engrossing and entertaining... the story pulls you in and won't let go. You will get drawn deeper and deeper into the mysterious happening and the interactions of the characters. F.E. Feeley Jr does a phenomenal job of building the story and making you care about its inhabitants. Definitely a recommended book.

Kaleb Cox does a fantastic job narrating. Brought story to life with a voice that was easy to listen to.

Eager for the sequel

I began listening without knowledge or expectations as to what the novel was about. What I got was a charming paranormal story in which the characters happen to be gay instead of their sexuality being the focal point of their identities. The ending caught me completely by surprise and I am keen to see the world building in the sequel.

F.E. Feeley knocks it out of the park, once again!

I've only recently started listening to audio books and I stumbled across F.E. Feeley's first book in this series a couple of months ago. Within moments, I was hooked and once I finished it I could hardly wait to start this next chapter in the Human Wraith series. The author's vivid description of middle-of-nowhere Kansas was on point, and his characters are both lovable and familiar. You feel like you know both of them, you understand the intricacies of their relationship, and their drive to band together against all odds to face and defeat an unseen foe. It's so refreshing to find well-written horror fiction with gay leads and to have relatable characters that go beyond the stereotype. Throughout the book I found myself rooting so hard for these two guys to make it through all the horrible things being thrown against them. Overall, a wonderful read and I highly recommend this book and the series to anyone who enjoys supernatural and horror stories.

Jonathan and Eddie's story was another scary plot filled journey by this amazing author. To say, it had me all in my emotional feelings is to say the least. The narration was good. The story was down right spooky. I so highly recommend! ENJOY!

Great story!!!

I have been looking for a good suspense/horror book and found it with this audio book. The narrator was easy to listen to and the story fast paced. I am very impressed with this author and will listen to more of his books

Love this series!!!!

I absolutely love this installment in the Human Wraiths series. F.E. Feeley Jr. does a wonderful job at telling the stories of what might be on the other side. Jonathan's past has done more than haunt him his whole life and seeing it come to such a powerful ending was amazing. Eddie's love and support for his husband is what gets him through all the rough times even if Jonathan doesn't always see it right away. The strength and beauty in their marriage is wonderful. This story has so many deep meanings within the writing that it makes for a wonderful and eye opening read. Even though there is a love story here, it is one that is already cemented and we are able to see a love story from a different angle, an angle that shows what two dedicated spouses can do for themselves and for others. There is also the story of Alan and his father Mark that is happening on the other side and seeing how Jonathan and Alan's stories cross and unfold makes this a book well worth reading. The way the author handles the past domestic abuse is well done, and even though you read about what happened in the past and experience it, there is none happening in the present day parts of the story line. I also loved the cameo appearance at the end of the movie....very well done!!!! Prepare to get all the chills and all the feels with this one! I can't wait for the next story in this series.

Hauntingly good

This was such an emotionally gripping story that brought me to tears more than once as the scenes played out. My experience was doubled profoundly by the narration, as it took me to another level. The imagery was vivid and I felt like I experienced it in real time. Engaging characters and intriguing storyline. I loved it
