Historia
Ever since disgraced associate Orrie Cather’s suicide, armchair detective Nero Wolfe has relished retirement in his Manhattan brownstone on West 35th Street. Two years after Cather’s death, only a visit from Maria Radovich - and the urging of Wolfe’s prize assistant, Archie Goodwin - could draw the eccentric and reclusive genius back into business. Maria’s uncle, New York Symphony Orchestra conductor Milan Stevens, formerly known as Milos Stefanovic, spent his youth alongside Wolfe as a fellow freedom fighter in the mountains of Montenegro.

Reseñas de la Crítica
"It's always a treat to read a Nero Wolfe mystery. The man has entered our folklore." (The New York Times)
"What's not to like about a Nero Wolfe mystery? The mysteries are short, cleverly plotted, well paced, and, if you're an audiobook listener, wonderfully read by Michael Prichard....Prichard has read nearly 20 books in Stout's series and has mastered Wolfe's deep, meditative voice and Archie's spry, chipper voice, as well as those of a host of other characters we recognize from one recording to the next." The fiction world of today needs a “Saint” more than it ever did. For years now that scene has been dominated by the “anti-heroes"—those grim gray operators in a sunless sub-culture where global issues are worked out with totally unemotional pragmatism, those hapless uninspired puppets manipulated and expended by ruthlessly dedicated little brothers of Big Brother. It made morbidly fascinating narrative, but it never gave anyone a lift until it climaxed in the hyper-gadgeted parodies of 007 extravaganzas.

In April 1945, The Nazis, reeling and near defeat, frantically work to hide the huge store of art treasures that Hitler has looted from Europe. Truck convoys loaded with the cultural wealth of the Western world pour in an unending stream into the compound of the vast Altaussee salt mine high in the Austrian Alps. But with the Allies closing in, the vaunted efficiency of the Nazis has broken down. At Altaussee, all is tumult and confusion.

Historia
Red Harvest, which was originally published in four issues of Black Mask from November 1927 to February 1928, is acclaimed as one of the essential detective novels, giving birth to a darker turn than classic great detectives such as Sherlock Holmes. Drawing from his personal experiences as an operative with the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Hammett portrays a dark, violent world full of gangsters, corrupt cops, and flawed detectives hired to clean up the place. André Gide called Red Harvest "a remarkable achievement, the last word in atrocity, cynicism, and horror."

You probably haven't noticed them. But they've noticed you. They notice everything. That's their job. Sitting quietly in a nondescript car outside a bank making note of the tellers' work habits. Lagging a few car lengths behind the Brinks truck on its daily rounds. Surreptitiously jiggling the handle of an unmarked service door at the racetrack. They're heisters.

Hailed by Salman Rushdie as a "brilliantly innovative thriller-writer", Philip Kerr is the creator of taut, gripping, noir-tinged mysteries set in Nazi-era Berlin that are nothing short of spellbinding. The first book of the Berlin Noir trilogy, March Violets introduces listeners to Bernie Gunther, an ex-policeman who thought he'd seen everything on the streets of 1930s Berlin - until he turned freelance and each case he tackled sucked him further into the grisly excesses of Nazi subculture.

It's 1978. Nero Wolfe, New York's 300-pound epicurean genius detective, has been dead for two years, leaving Archie holding the brownstone. In a post-Wolfe dystopia with a sense of humor, Archie, Saul, Fritz, and Cramer find themselves in the crosshairs of a worldwide criminal cartel. Nero ends the Case!
Any Nero Wolf book is a joy to read or listen to. The reader M Prichard, who has read a multitude of these books has the tone and personality of the characters down pat. Archy and Nero especially. This story had an ending that is a shocker. Never in any other has Nero's action seemed not to follow the law through to the end.

Satisfactory!
Would you consider the audio edition of Not Quite Dead Enough to be better than the print version?
Micheal Pritchard IS Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin. Nobody does Wolfe better.
What other book might you compare Not Quite Dead Enough to and why?
The Black Mountain where we see Wolfe step out of his comfort zone and tackle problems in a new yet totally Wolfe way.
Have you listened to any of Michael Prichard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
All of them. Performance is spot on.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
certainly!

War Time Nero!
Any additional comments?
As I see Nero Wolfe in my mind's eye, I never picture him jogging on the piers of NY, readying himself to go "kill some Germans". This story is quirky, to say the least. But it is also vintage Nero Wolfe and a great snapshot of wartime America in WWII.
