Acerca de esta escucha

When things are going to plan, check to see what you’re missing.

Admiral Jack Romanoff and his crew are trapped inside the Confederation proper and facing an unknown number of alien attack ships. They’d thought the Tardan military was defeated, but they’d been wrong. Now they were trapped in a fight they couldn’t lose.

When everything seems exactly as you’d hoped, figure out what you’ve missed.

Not only do they need to stop the Locusts, but they still have to defeat the Poseidon Group and overturn the coup they’d staged. They only have two battleships and a spy ship to make that happen. Their only advantage is that no one knows they’re there. They’ll have one chance to get things right, or humanity is screwed.

When everything goes to hell and your back is against the wall, fight.

The saga continues

4 of 5 stars.

New challenges await Jack Romanoff and his fleet in the Faust system and nearby cluster. The Locusts have returned in force as the crew of Delta Orionis deals with local elements of the Poseidon Group who have successfully taken over the Confederation. There are a few twists in the plot to keep interest. I'll keep reading them if Chaney & Mixon keep writing them.

Jeffrey Kafer continues his track record of solid narration.

non-stop action!

this storyline has staying power, keeping me interested in going forward. I think it's getting to the point, though, that some resolution to the storyline should be coming more visible (light at the end of the tunnel), as it's beginning to show more-of-the-same plot lines. As long as the Hunter continues to receive upgrades and gets to use them, it may continue to drag out a few more books, but the higher it goes, the harder the going gets.

What a great twist.

Very well written twist to the plans laid out buy the characters. Can’t wait for the next one.

So Much "Filler" And So Little Story

I've really soured on this series, but since I've invested so much time in it, I figure I owe it to myself to see it to the conclusion. But it's become harder and harder to indure. My issues with it:

1. There is an incredible amount of "Filler". Chapters after chapter which don't move the plot forward *at all*. For example: chapters on hiring new chefs. Chapters on increasing the size of people's quarters. They'll have long long discussions about speculation about what might happen years and years from now. Etc. And is there *any* payoff for these chapters? Does something important happen, like a chef turns out to be an enemy spy, or the relocating of people's living quarters produces some catastrophic accident? No, of course not. It's 100% completely wasted space.

2. After a while, all the characters seem more and more alike. None of them have any defining quirks. How many books could you say that about? They are all the nicest people you'd ever meet, and they are all insufferable windbags, launching into long boring lectures at one another, allegedly to impart their not-so-infinite wisdom. It gets tiresome very quickly.

3. To the extent there is conflict (which is long and far between), every conflict is a butt-kicking. After a very very long time, some threat will finally show up, they'll go "oh no!" and then immediately find a way they can beat the living snot out of their opponent without any losses. Time after time after time.

You know what would be funner than all the above? Stuff that happens. Challenges that seem insurmountable, or even *are* insurmountable. Loses that happen. You're not writing a "cozy" you know! This is supposed to be war! UGH. A couple more books... gotta keep telling myself it's only a couple more books to indure.

This is not the way stories work guys! *sigh*

overall a great series, but not this book

overall it's a great series, I have really enjoyes it, but I am not sure if this book jumped the shark, or the interns wrote the plot. I will try one more book to decide if I continue.

Very slow story

I fast forwarded through a lot of the mundane parts, hoping the next one moves a little faster and has more action.
