Ever since I was young, things would happen to me that never seemed to happen to my sisters or friends. I often wondered "why me?" But now I understand—it was to keep me grounded, and sometimes just to keep me sane. My brother-in-law has always said these things happen to me because I’m "always starting stuff.” But you’ll see when you listen to the stories; it’s not me. It just happens in front of me.
While I was growing up, I sometimes wondered if other people would find my life funny or interesting. Even with all the seriousness of everyday life, there were things that happened to make it bearable, things that brought a smile to my face. As I got older, I would sometimes tell a few of these stories from my life, and they would bring a smile to other people’s faces, too, and maybe even make them laugh aloud. People seemed to enjoy them.
So, after I retired, I started to write some of these stories down. What you’re about to hear are stories I remember from over 65 years of living. I’ve laughed and cried, and they are all true stories. They might not be as funny in writing as when I tell them face to face, but I hope you enjoy them. I never imagined I would be writing all my thoughts down for other people to hear, but I hope that some of these stories will brighten your day just a little, and remind you that all people—no matter who they are—can be a little funny. Remember, no one’s perfect, so just smile!
