Acerca de esta escucha

LAPD Detective Harry Bosch is off the chain in the fastest, fiercest, and highest-stakes case of his life.

Fortune Liquors is a small shop in a tough South LA neighborhood, a store Bosch has known for years. The murder of John Li, the store's owner, hits Bosch hard, and he promises Li's family that he'll find the killer.

The world Bosch steps into next is unknown territory. He brings in a detective from the Asian Gang Unit for help with translation - not just of languages but also of the cultural norms and expectations that guided Li's life. He uncovers a link to a Hong Kong triad, a lethal and far-reaching crime ring that follows many immigrants to their new lives in the US.

And instantly his world explodes. The one good thing in Bosch's life, the person he holds most dear, is taken from him and Bosch travels to Hong Kong in an all-or-nothing bid to regain what he's lost. In a place known as Nine Dragons, as the city's Hungry Ghosts festival burns around him, Bosch puts aside everything he knows and risks everything he has in a desperate bid to outmatch the triad's ferocity.

I disagree with the critical reviews. I've watched the television series and listened to these audio books in order. I found the "Brass Verdict" a bit of a bait and switch - not a true Bosch book at all - that followed too closely on a less drastic but similar detour in "A Darkness More Than Night." I'm glad Bosch is truly back. I'm also glad to see a couple of annoying return characters go. One of these had developed into a mere foil for Bosch, and the other was never truly developed at all. No spoilers, but I'm truly pleased with the house cleaning.

I also reject the simplistic reading that Bosch is a racist, beyond the understandable self-discovery and acknowledgement of latent bias relating to his Vietnam experience. This is realistic, shared by real men I know who were really there, and the appropriately causes introspective and growth, as demonstrated in the main story line in this book.

The nutshell is that this is an action packed adventure in which Connelly simultaneously cleans house and delivers a good offering, rather than simply alternating between the two functions, as he has sometimes seemed to do. All in all, it is a solid Bosch book, and is well read by my favorite Bosch reader, Len Cariou.

l like the Chinese twist . However, too much killing for me this time . The twists and turns were too disjointed. I still finished it and liked it okay.

Good read but...

This series of books continues to hold my interest and excitement!: I love Harry and all the characters!

Excellen!

I have been making my way through the Bosch series and this one goes close to the bottom in rating. I just seems like Connelly ran out of steam and just wanted to wrap things up. It lacked the detailed credible storyline that I've been enjoying in this series.

Somewhat Disappointing

Bosch series continues to add a surprise here and there in the story. Still as entertaining as the earlier works.

Great twist

It's really too bad MC phones in every third book. When he gives it the time and attention, his books are riveting and fun. But every so often, like with this one, it's a ridiculous attempt. I know he can do better, the book that comes after this one was much better. Save yourself.

He phoned this one in
