First Sister has no name and no voice. As a priestess of the Sisterhood, she travels the stars alongside the soldiers of Earth and Mars - the same ones who own the rights to her body and soul. When her former captain abandons her, First Sister’s hopes for freedom are dashed when she is forced to stay on her ship with no friends, no power, and a new captain - Saito Ren - whom she knows nothing about. She is commanded to spy on Captain Ren by the Sisterhood, but soon discovers that working for the war effort is much harder when you’re falling in love.

Absolute action!
Oh man it is just pure fire! The narrative of Mr. Ray Porter is phenomenal and the writing never disappoints!! Just really fun! Thank you for this I can't wait for more!!!

The terror of the great deep unknown.
The flaking and pitting of the soul when melded to machine and it right to choose how it shall be done. The bring of this war to to the gods, giving them a war they won’t believe.

Off to a good start!
Great story and excellent narration. I like the tie in to the Ledger universe. Hope that goes somewhere. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Thrilling
A great listen. Fast paced story and a lot of fun. Jonathan Maberry delivers as always, and Ray Porter is a great narrator.

Not up to Mayberry standards
Mayberry is one of my favorite authors and Ray is my favorite reader by far, but even Ray couldn't save this one for me. Lovecraftian mythos combined with space exploration? Great, I'm all in. But when the physics demolishing Voltron giant robot chimera idea from 80s kids TV is added to the mix, you kinda lose me in a cartoon jump the shark moment. Jonathan's friends and editors should have encouraged him to shelve this one.

Slow and it doesn’t draw you in
I’m a fan of all things JM but there is something about this story that just doesn’t draw me in. It’s slow going and that’s at a speed of 1.5 when listening. The story is not exciting and just too all over the place. I don’t know. Out of all his books, this one is the least favorite. It’s taking me a while to complete it and complete it I will but I’ll do it kicking and screaming. As always, Ray does a wonderful job at narration.

ok I'm ready for the next book this was a fresh take on cosmic horror and didn't leave me just wishing the story was over.

Ray Porter was awesome as always.
Not Maberry's best work. I like that he's trying sci-fi, but this one was not up to his usual great writing.

Outstanding writing and character development makes this an amazing story!
Scientists meddling in things they shouldn’t starts this amazingly fast paced science fiction phenomenon! You’re going to connect to the amazing characters and stay rooted to the edge of your seat in this amazing thriller. I was even shouting out loud at points in the story.
Ray Porter is the KING OF NARRATION and presents this story in a way that honors its creativity while adding that something only Ray Porter can pull off!
