Excellent stories that needed different narrators!

As much as I liked these stories. Having narrators that were non Yoruba/Nigerian was very noticeable in so many instances. I was honestly surprised that creative decision.

The narrators used were fantastic and aren't to blame for the issue. The publisher should do better. For anyone who hasn't been to or lacks familiarity with the places in Lagos in this book, you'll be fine. If you're like me, then it can be distracting.

I still really liked this book and recommend it. Maybe hard copy instead!

Unflinchingly Real!

The author crafted unflinchingly real moments, some of which were painful, yet necessary in order to fully appreciate each snapshot into the characters' lives. A smattering of humor in unexpected places steadied journeys that are carefully measured, beautifully written, perfectly narrated. Well done all!

Interesting stories, terrible narration

The short stories were interesting and believable, but the narration completely ruined the experience. The forced, exaggerated Nigerian accents felt inauthentic and distracting, especially for the female narrator, making it hard to stay immersed in the storytelling.

Sexy stories about trash men!

Thoroughly enjoyed all the stories and loved that some of them took me for a loop. Definitely for the grown and sexy woman who has met these kinds of men or even just heard of them. Very funny and entertaining from start to finish.

True story....got it very right

Great stories of what life is like In Lagos. Very funny and vivid descriptions. I thought the sex acts were a bit too much. The narrators were good.

I love every single story in this book. I cannot believe how good this book was. I am a short story fanatic. These were AMAZING

Horrible Female Narrator

I’m on the third story, but I know for a fact that I CANNOT continue. I wish I had just listened to my instinct and bought the hard copy of this book. The first two stories were great and I loved them. I had to force myself to listen to that first one, but the male narrator on the second was tolerable, although was not reading in an authentic manner as well.

I’m of Nigerian descent based in the US and the way this narrator is butchering names and places is bad enough. However, what makes this unbearable is not just her accent, but her inflections. She is reading the story in an insufferable manner and one not authentic to Nigerians or really any culture I’m familiar with.

I wish audible would hire more auditors who have been approved by the author, as I’m sure the author would not be happy to have her work butchered in this manner.

The author is brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed the first two stories, but I’m going to have to buy the book in order to continue and not further ruin my experience.

I wouldn’t even mind rereading this for audible free of charge in order to have this beautiful work showcased in a better light.

Narration was horrible

Loved the stories but the nation was horrible and very aggressive. Audible find a better person for these narrations

A narrator can make a story

I really wanted to immerse myself into this book after “only a big bum bum matters tomorrow.” Performed by a phenomenal narrator. I was hooked! I wanted more of her books until this. The narrator ruined the experience. Hard to get through the thick accent, and hearing the dialects butchered killed my ears, she’s definitely not Nigerian (not that she needs to be).

Suffice to say, an audiobook is as enjoyable as its narrator.

AMAZING STORYTELLING

This story is such a page turner! I tried to prolong finishing it as long as I could. I can’t wait to re-read it.
