A standing practice was to allow the defeated to continue practicing their culture and religion so long as they paid their taxes on time. Such a procedure was part of why Christianity would seep into the Roman Empire around the 1st century CE, for example. For the Etruscans, this meant they influenced aspects of Roman civilization, one of the most powerful cultures in the history of the Western world.

Cringe
For dummies, by dummies. This is put together for the type of hip boomer that watches a lot of PBS News and thinks they're wise and tolerant. Extremely cringe references to modern, but slightly dated pop culture and descriptions like "cool" abound. Other than the things I already knew, I trust nothing I've heard here. This is especially true because of the overwhelming cloud of opinion and adjectives attached to the facts. Worse than the History Channel.
