Amazing first book. AH’s writing is wonderfully descriptive and personal. If you love Italy, Dante, or personal stories of growth, this is your book.

The long road to finding your calling

Alizah Holstein is a transcendent writer. The historian in her lingers carefully over details, sometimes a bit too long, but in the end she draws beautiful and sometimes profound insights. Everything comes circling round, even the parts of the story that seemed tangential. A great deal of the narrative resonated with me personally, which it may not do with everyone. If you love Rome, a must read.
