Acerca de esta escucha

Can you get by for an hour without talking? A day even? What about a month? Or nine? Rebecca Marley sets herself a nine-month challenge with only one rule: She isn’t allowed to communicate with anyone. She is to become mute. How hard could it be?

Yet, what starts as a challenge soon becomes a journey of self-discovery as Rebecca has only herself for company. Will this time be the peaceful respite she so desperately seeks? Or will she confront aspects of herself that a noisy world hides so well?

Faced with love and heartache, she soon learns to find solace in silence.

Really enjoyed the creative subject of a woman choosing to go mute and document her experiences. And narrated by a very talented voice actress! Great character voices and timing. 10/10!

Excellent book!

It was ok. I like parts of the story but I feel like it was unfinished. I have too many unanswered questions.

*** spoiler alert ***

Why do we not see her go and find Benjamin? Why leave Eddie in the coffee shop stunned and not say more? I’m glad she made up with her mom. That was nice. But I just feel as if there could have been more to the story. The narrator was good. The writing was good. I just needed more I guess.

This book will be delightful to discuss with my friends and family. Full of fun fodder for friendly interaction. The ending seemed abrupt but overall a good read. Especially liked the narrator who has a calming and clear voice. She was able to put pictures in my head

Discussion worthy!

I really loved this book! I feel like I learned things about myself just listening. Wonder if I could be silent that long? I enjoyed the narrator also.

Amazing

I just love when you forget a narrator is narrating and you get lost in the story. The narrator WAS Rebecca and you could feel the emotions she was experiencing both the ups and downs. You’ll laugh, cry, and after your own introspective thoughts, just be amazed at the author’s realistic creation. It reads like a real autobiography.

I never read anything by Christine Bernard before but I look forward to listening to more of her works in the future! The same goes with the narrator. I look forward to what other books she’ll breathe life into.

It’s sooo good!!

I absolutely loved this book. I can relate to Rebecca on so many levels. I consider myself an introvert and don't like being around many people. When I first heard the "project" that Rebecca decided to do I actually laughed because I thought it would be something I would do. I remember years ago when I had about a week off of work and stayed home and around day four I wanted to be around people and was actually shocked my own voice when I called out to my cat. I don't think anyone is so introverted to steep to this level, but it is a great read to hear the possible outcome. I think it's a great read for anyone.

A Must Read for all Introverts

This was amazing!I loved it!A woman that works for a magazine feels out of step with the world. This leads to an assignment that she goes without talking for 9 months.Though I would have changed a few stipulations,I found her situation intriguing. Kendra Murphy was a terrific narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I kept on thinking what would happen if do a challenge like that. I enjoyed the emotional rawness and eye opening events.
The ending was a bit sudden

I really enjoyed this!

The soothing voice was perfect for this story and drew me to care and relate to Rebecca’s struggle to sort out her troubled soul. I listen to the entire story in one day while I worked from home. I laughed, cried, and cheered. I would read more books by Christine Bernard and listen to narration by Kendra Murray. Well done!

I Loved This Fascinating Story

The premise of this novel fascinated me. I certainly wouldn’t mind not having to talk to anyone for a long period of time. I initially wondered how a novel could be sustained when the main character (Rebecca) voluntarily gives up talking for nine months.

The story unfolds quite well. Rebecca is an insightful observer of both her own inner struggles as well as the world around her. I appreciated learning that I am not the only person bothered by the habits and behaviors of others (e.g., loud chewers). It was also interesting learning about her life through her memories (including recalled conversations). The growth she experiences throughout the novel is realistic and poignant.

If you are an introvert, an HSP, or just need time away from people, you will enjoy the story and relate to the main character.

Favorite quote. “Fifteen minutes (into the run), my audio player died on me, leaving me with no distractions. All I had for the rest of my run were my own thoughts - a dangerous place to be.”

The narrator was new to me and she did seem to become Rebecca. But at times the pitch of her voice changed and this was a bit distracting. There are other “young” readers I would have preferred, such as Brittany Pressley.

Overall, an awesome book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
