Acerca de esta escucha

Murder In The Yoga Store is the true story of the brutal killing of a beautiful young woman at a chic Lululemon yoga-wear shop. The grisly murder was committed on a pleasant Friday night in upscale Bethesda, Maryland, a leafy suburb of Washington, D.C. In this riveting narrative by veteran journalist Peter Ross Range, the author for the first time brings together the tale of what really happened in the yoga store murder. He portrays the personalities of both victim and murderer, along with the strange and convoluted circumstances of the crime and its cover-up. Range meticulously exposes layer upon layer of deceit and confusion. His account builds the tension of the police investigation until the real story, so odd and creepy, takes your breath away. The drama of the murder trial is a moving emotional roller coaster built around the prosecutors, the detectives and the family of the victim.

Peter Ross Range is a longtime Washington, D.C., magazine writer. A former White House correspondent for U.S. News & World Report and foreign correspondent for Time, Range has covered politics, international affairs and war. He has written for The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic and many other publications.

Reseñas editoriales

Jesse Einstein brings a clear voice and understated performance to Peter Ross Range’s nonfiction crime story Murder in the Yoga Store: The True Story of the Lululemon Killing.

Range, a one-time overseas bureau chief for Time, brings his reporting skills to the murder of the Washington, D.C., yoga store employee who was stabbed to death by her co-worker. Vividly evoking both the victim and the killer, the author recounts the incident, the ensuing cover-up by the murderer, and, ultimately, her arrest and trial.

Einstein trusts the power of this grisly true life story and reads it carefully – and without any overly dramatic flourishes.

Sad Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Murder in the Yoga Store to be better than the print version?

I would have preferred the written version, to the audio, because the narration was aweful

What other book might you compare Murder in the Yoga Store to and why?

I don't read/listen to a lot of true crime stories so it would be hard to compare it to anything.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jesse Einstein?

anyone!!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I thought the story was sad, but the robotic, awful tone of narrator was difficult to listen too, so I had to take a lot of breaks.

nope

The narrator was terrible. sounded like a real double bag. The book itself was not fleshed out very well either.

Needed different narrator!

The narrator's stilted and extremely creepy way of speaking made me want to stop listening from the first several minutes, but I continued through to the end. He really shouldn't have attempted any female voices.
I really only continued listening because I didn't have time while working to switch to a different audio book.
Outside of the narrator and his grating female voice impressions... the story was well written and held my interest throughout the twists and turns.
How incredibly sad to know that this is a true crime which was committed by a soulless monster who seemed to have zero remorse for taking a life in such a brutal attack.

This was a real wake up call for people

Is there anything you would change about this book?

no

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

That it could possible reach people who today are walking around with their heads burried in the sand & their eyes getting textitious.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing. He sounded like a reporter & that was what was called for.

Do you think Murder in the Yoga Store needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I would hope that someday they could get a better idea of Why the murderer did what they did.

Any additional comments?

I realize this is a book, but it is also a true story of a horrific murder that happened close to where I live. And I ended up with the same frightening questions so many others did when all was said & done. My opinion is this is a wake-up call that people in this country are using less & less common sense, are being brain washed by electronics like smart phones to the point they don’t know what is going on right under their noses, & caring less & less for their fellow man. In fact so much so that healthy competition has ultimately turned deadly.
I have a lot to say about the Apple & Lululemon Company who was so caught up in themselves & their profit margin job they completely dropped the ball. Apple - by not getting involved by ma king a 30 second 911 on their smart phones being sold at the time could have at least tried to prevent a horrendous murder. And I fault the Lululemon Company for their demands for having personal security checks. By doing this they in my opinion actually opened the door for more trouble. These business practices I hope by now have been completely changed. That is why security cameras were invented & why the security police are hired. And for their policy to ask other employees to “SPY” on each other is not only dangerous but totally uncalled for. This company is praised for being spiritual & promoting health. I don’t think so.
I was once asked by my employer to do this very same thing. My response went something like this… ”You want me to spy on my co-worker so you can get the goods on him? Hell No! what are you nuts? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? Spying on others is not in my job description & it never will be!” So in hind’s sight even the other clerks & managers were unwisely duped into playing a very dangerous game. What has that got to do with providing a quality product?
Like I said, even though the murderer(s) are serving a life’s sentence without parole, I can’t help but wonder if this death could have been prevented if more people took the time sooner & stepped up & wasn’t automatically fooled by a person’s smile, to call a spade a spade & a lie a lie. But in order to do this people have to get their faces out of their cell phones & pay close attention.

It was good!

Enjoyed the story, as sad as it was.
I had very little prior knowledge of it, so none of it was rehashing of the story for me. Enjoyed the narration of the story. Good job!

Suburban Murder

The Lululemon is an upscale yoga clothing store located in the upper class area of Montgomery County, MD.

This true story revolves around the vicious murder of a 26 year old woman working at night with only two employees instead of the usual three. One woman had covered herself by getting some else to work for her. However, her replacement was not able to work. Their supervisor, after called, agreed to keep the store open even though their staff was down by one.

The shop was located next to a Verizon outlet. An employee, while investigating a noise she was hearing through the thin walls at the back of the store, asked another employee to listen and evaluate as to whether the noise was something out of the ordinary. They both listened and thought that what they heard were unusual sounds but when the noise stopped they went back to finish their work without placing a call to the police or 911.

The book was filled with many repetitive descriptions that were unnecessary. The book should have been reduced in length and could have been a much better listen. Getting through the first third of the book was difficult.

The narrator was okay. The book was short and I did want to know the outcome. I'm not one to skip ahead so as to get through quicker. I always think that I might miss something important.

I feel that the parents needed to have the murder publicized to ease their pain. Therefore, an author was chosen and the book was published. I can only hope that this book has helped them to move ahead.
