I don’t think I have the strength to hold on anymore, and all hope left me after the last tidal wave dragged me under.

I’m going to preface this with two things:
1) I purchase every single book in this series as soon as it’s released because the series as a whole is wonderful.
2)This won’t be a fluffy review to try an convince readers to read the series because if you’re reading this review then you should already know it’s worth it!!

Real quick tho: the redundancy is real 🥴.
“I held up a finger/hand” is said AT LEAST 14 times. And it’s usually connected to some phrase resembling ‘when he/she opened his/her mouth to blast me’. This was one of my major issues with the last book and has unfortunately rolled over to this book. Also, ‘You could hear a fly fart’ is said so much that it really loses its dramatic flare.

👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 Now, most of this review will be about one specific thing that really irked me about this book.

~ I love the strong, witty FMC that Tamsin has always been, but lately, over the last 3 or 4ish books it feels like, the scenes when she’s taking a dominant stand against what (I guess) is supposed to be female oppression are taken too far. Most of my issues with this are when she disagrees or gets into an argument with one of her MATES.
•It’s really not fun to read about Tamsin verbally bashing a mate, or multiple mates, when through the entire series we’ve grown to like, or in most cases LOVE, them and their dedication to Tamsin. Because of this, these scenes when Tamsin overreacts and/or assumes the worst about her mates without allowing them to explain, she ends up looking VERY petty and Id even go as far as saying she gaslights them.
•She immediately resorts to being the victim and gets unreasonably defensive. Then that turns into her mates completely abandoning their former line of thought while they begin to apologize profusely and beg her forgiveness. Its ridiculously unhealthy, utterly ridiculous, and honestly kind of gross.

~One particular scene Tamsin tells Dean White that she “loses just fine”, whether it be friendly friendly competition or otherwise. Darby, yes sweet sweet loving loyal Darby, simply snorts at that and quickly follows it up by saying “yes well, you say that because you never actually lose, agra” and apparently that makes her “furious” 🙄😒. She starts pointing out all the times she was fine losing to him in scrabble and jeopardy, and whatever else in such a rude and nasty manner, yet Darby immediately starts telling her she’s right and he’s sorry 🙄🙄🙄. He tries to reach for her and she steps away, which makes him “flinch”, and then she tells him “good luck getting laid ANYTIME soon.”
Like are you serious? Are couples not allowed to have a difference of opinion? So he thinks she wins so much that she may not have an accurate representation of how she acts when she loses? So what? That sounds like a hell of a compliment to me‼️ She goes on to whine about how she wasn’t trying to be a baby or blow anything out of proportion, but that it really “hurt her feelings that he had this opinion of her” 🙄. I seriously can’t roll my eyes enough at these sort of scenes. She’s always talking about how she’s quick to admit she’s not perfect.. well neither is anyone else! And MAYBE, just MAYBE, you might have taken things out of context and assumed just a little too much.
She even points out that he seemed nervous to even say that to her!!! Why do we want mates that are afraid to say certain things around her?!? That leaves no room for constructive criticism. That’s not the kind of romantic relationships I’m trying to read about. I understand there needs to be issues and drama in order to keep us interested, but not at the cost of her mates backbone.
She’s petty af to Darby and continuously dismissive and demeaning to Lucca. I understand Tamsin has trauma and ptsd hang ups… but I feel like it’s starting to do more harm than good to the storyline. It doesn’t add up that she can be insanely smart when dealing with arguments with other characters throughout the book, but she ends up being a complete idiot in her relationships.

GOOD NEWS IS‼️‼️‼️—> We FINALLY get more Hudson in this book, which I am allllllllll the way here for!! It’s beautiful to read and honestly one of my favorite parts of this book.
In addition, there are a lot of wonderful interactions with the hobgoblin children and even the fae dogs. I LOVE the scenes with Chief 😍😍😍

OH and I’m kind of rooting for Neldor to become more than platonic with Tamsin at some point in this series 🤔. Crazy, i know😳

Brace yourself for that ending tho!! I think things are REALLY about to amp up 😱

This series has me in a choke hold. I can't get enough of the artist know as Author Erin R Flynn, and can't wait to listen my way through her catalog of art. For those who so called hate AI, her stories are so well written that you forget the narrator is AI... so go-ahead and give them a try.
