Interesting book

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I enjoyed the narrator’s voice and inflection. The story is about Lauren Ambrose and Nick Matthews. He wants to put her family’s oil wells under a venture contract, and Lauren and her sister are hesitant. Lauren is an artist who doesn’t want to fall in love because of the family curse of men dying early. I would highly recommend reading or listening to this book.

Finding love and overcoming the curse

The saga of the Ambrose women continues with Lauren's story, which is written by one of my favorite authors. Lauren's an artist and really different than her older sister Sofia (who we met in Mostly Dangerous). She doesn't let people know she's an Ambrose, she's learned people tend to treat you differently when they know you come from wealth, and she never goes on more than five dates with a guy because of the whole curse thing. Lauren's not sure why her grandmother summoned her to the Ambrose Estate, but when she gets there she's not happy to discover the venture capitalist her grandmother wants to do business with is Nicholas Matthews.

I loved Lauren and Nicholas' first meeting--arguing over a cab--and that he knew exactly who she was, but she didn't know him from Adam. Their second meeting in the library was also pretty good when she "uninvites" him to Ambrose Estate to give his business proposal. Sparks were flying.

Nick is about as perfect as a guy can be. Even though he and Lauren had a super rocky start he came when she called in the middle of the night. He pays attention to the small things, so what woman wouldn't fall for that kind of guy? I also loved that he kept buying her paintings, and not because he's a nice guy. Nick has his work cut out for him if he's going to win Lauren over to his side, as she's never alllowed herself to fall for anyone because of that blasted curse. Speaking of the dreaded curse, I wondered what she would have to do to break it; I figured it out about the same time she did.

I really like this new series, I know I say that about every series Heather B. Moore writes but she knows how to write characters that make me care about them. I can't wait to read about the other Ambrose sisters and what they'll do to break the curse.

I liked the narrator a lot. I feel she didn't overdo the Texas accent for the Ambrose family matriarch, as some people tend to do.

A swoony curse

Do you believe in curses? The Ambrose women definitely have a curse that's extended through the family for generations and it basically means they can't fall in love and get married or something tragic will happen. I loved the meet cute between Lauren and Nick and that's all it takes for the chemistry to start to sizzle like a slice of bacon, but wait--it can't. I enjoyed the slight Southern accent of the narrator and thought she did a great job telling the story.

I was expecting the secrets and curse to play a bigger role, but the swoon stole the show, and that's alright with me. This curse is so fascinating and kind of scary, but with solid characters and an interesting twist, I was completely sold.

clean romance

The narrator on this book does a great job and listening to it added to my enjoyment. (I read it first a couple years ago). This is a stand alone but I suggest reading the first one in the series first. I think the curse makes more sense in the first one than if you read this one without that previous background. Just my opinion.

I like the premise of this series. It is unique. The curse itself is rather mystical and in this book there is a little unexplainable twist at the end of the story. The writing is good and the story does not drag. The two main characters are likable though we have to wonder about Nick in the beginning. But he turns out to be an okay guy. Looking forward to reading about the other granddaughters as well.

THE MYSTERY IS INTENSE BUT DEFINITELY WORTTH IT! REAGAN BOGGS DID A WONDERFUL JOB WITH THE NARRATION OF THE STORY.

Fun, contemporary romance

This clean, contemporary romance has a twist. Any man who marries an Ambrose woman, has died an untimely death. It’s up to Nick to help Lauren break the curse. The narrator had a soothing voice and really brought this story to life.

Mostly Perfect: The Women of Ambrose Estate by Heather B. Moore (4.5 stars)

I liked that there was angst but, just like in book one, it was mostly on the heroine’s side. Nick knew that he felt differently about Lauren than he had about any other woman and was ready to pursue her. At the same time, when the curse is revealed in its entirety, he waits, hoping but not knowing if she’ll come around.

Nick is good for Lauren; he gets her out and about. She is good for him because she has a kind, pure heart and doesn't value wealth or status; she values people. She's perfectly content to live a simple, non-materialistic life as an artist. (Her miniatures sound really special, I wonder if they are based on a real artist's art?)

The fulfilling of the curse is cool; not as heart-wrenching as the first book’s was, but certainly more creepy and mysterious.

A hard-to-put-down read! You can’t go wrong with a Heather B. Moore book!

Narration: 4.5 stars

Reagan Boggs has a smooth, southern accent that perfectly "voices" the women of Ambrose. Male voice is deep enough to be believable and the feel of her books is calm and soothing, but not boring. (I wish she had done a British accent for the ancestor's journal, but that isn't a true complaint, just a wish.) A wonderful voice actress to whom I will happily listen again!

Some suspense and sweet romance!!!

This was a perfect book to snuggle up with and get lost in this week. Life has been busy and crazy for several weeks and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my time disappearing into the world of the Ambrose family and estate. I've read and listened to the book and enjoyed both. The narrator was great to listen to. I really liked how she brought these two characters to life.

If you've read the first book, that one really delved deeper into the history of the family, the estate and the curse. This book alluded to the curse and some of the family history but focused more on Lauren and Nick. Their learning to adjust to life and to keep moving forward.

If you've read books by Heather B. Moore, then you'll know she's a master storyteller. She knows how to create characters that are easily relatable, and who make you want to cheer for them. And yes, I was cheering for them! How could I not? I loved Lauren and her goodness. She exuded peace and acceptance for what her life was. Did she have longings and desires for more? Yes. But she had learned to find something to make her happy and content with what her life was. If that's vague, the only hint I'll give is, the curse. Duh, duh, duhhhhhhh! *Cue ominous music* ;-)

And Nick, well Nick was Nick. As another reviewer said...Nick, oh Nick, oh Nick! Hahahaha! Not only does Heather B. Moore write great characters, but she writes great romance for said characters. I always know going into reading one of her books I'm going to be smiling and giggling and sighing over the sweet romance between the couple. Lauren and Nick were funny. They harbored some misgivings and heartache. But they also found enjoyment in the moments that they could. I loved their banter. I loved their friendship. I loved their sweet and tender friendship. I loved their beautiful love story.

There were plenty of ups and downs throughout this one. But the resolution was fabulous! The family of both Lauren and Nick had some humorous moments, some frustrating moments, but most importantly some redemptive moments.

If you haven't read either of the books, do it! I love the writing for both of these authors so for me it's an instant read and enjoy! You can read them alone if you don't want to read them in order, or both of them. There are more books coming in this series and I can't wait to dive into the other sister's stories. The women of Ambrose are plucky and resourceful women. The matriarch of the family taught them well. I hope we'll continue to see her in the forthcoming books as well.

Another good one from Heather B. Moore!

Heather B. Moore is one of my favorite authors! Normally, I listen to her historical romance novels so this contemporary audiobook was a bit of a change for me but it was worth it!

Mostly Perfect is a sweet, clean romance that is the second book in the Women of Ambrose Estate series.

Lauren has always held herself back from falling in love. When any guy she dates starts to get serious, she quickly puts an end to the relationship before things can go further.

Successful, wealthy, and “GQ” handsome, Nick wants someone to care about him - not his status, his looks, or his bank account.

Lauren and Nick happily find their way until the Ambrose family curse puts a stop to their budding romance. Can Lauren finally give love a chance even though she has always been afraid of the curse? Can Nick love Lauren even if it could mean his premature death?

I had not listened to Mostly Dangerous - the first novel in the Women of Ambrose Estate series. However, Mostly Perfect had enough of the backstory woven in that it worked for me as a stand alone.
