Morgue Ship by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction short story, which appeared in the summer 1944 issue of Planet Stories and is therefore eligible for the 1945 Retro Hugos.
Morgue Ship is short, only six pages long, but Bradbury perfectly manages to capture the atmosphere aboard the morgue ship with its clinical interior, its shelves full of dead soldiers, the churning blood pumps and whirring machinery, in such a short space. Bradbury also manages to pack the horrors of war in space, the exploding ships and spinning dead bodies among the wreckage, into just a few paragraphs. Finally, Bradbury captures overwhelming weariness of Sam Burnett, weariness with his grisly task, weariness with the war and the feeling that because Burnett is not a combatant, he is not contributing to the war effort.

This is one of the few Bradbury short stories that has never been reprinted since its appearance in the Spring 1948 issue of PLANET STORIES. It's about an old man named Nibley who has a unique, almost supernatural ability to calculate the orbits of objects in motion. That's a valuable ability to have for navigating in space, of course, but science has passed Nibley by and all rockets now have radar computators to handle such navigation. But then an accident happens and the fate of the entire Earth colony on Jupiter relies on getting a supply ship through the Asteroid Belt without its instruments, with only a dying old man to guide the way.

An Excellent Science Fiction Short Story, Very Well Read
I really enjoyed this short story. I read and listened. The Audiobook is faithful to the kindle copy. This is a thoughtful action short story. Vintage Bradbury.

Fascinating science fiction ><><>ll
Morgue ship tells the story of a disillusioned morgue ship worker. Learning about the world of the book via his thoughts on his own existence. The narration by Peter Coats is perhaps slightly slow, but mostly quite captivating. A short but interesting dive into science fiction. Would recommend for fans of Ray Bradbury
