The ground was wet from the rain which had been drizzling from yesterday morning. Her home slippers were completely wet by the time she ran out of the courtyard and in the direction of the seashore. The wind blew out her thin muslin dress as she ran as fast as she could away from the house. Soon, she could see the sand of the beach when she heard a bark behind her back. It was Wilfred. He encircled her a few times and kept barking, jumping out and pointing with his head in the direction of the house. Elizabeth’s eyes narrowed at him. “You are one of them, are you not?” she cried, the cold raindrops intensified by the breeze from the sea hitting her cheeks. Wilfred stilled and stared into her eyes. She began to walk again. The wolf followed her. “Go away!” she cried. “Leave me alone! Do you hear me? Go away!” She ran till she reached the soft, wet sand on the water's edge. A small wave came to her and washed over her feet and petticoats. She heard barking again. This time stronger and louder. She turned around. “I told you to leave me alone,” she cried angrily, thinking it was Wilfred again. But it was not him. “Tis you,” she whispered. Although many months had passed, she recognized him immediately. The animal approached her. There was no sound, and no light, no smell, and the transformation happened very quickly. Her husband stood in front of her, stark naked. She felt the cloying sensation in her stomach, coming up to her throat and she fainted.
