Each day we are forced to make countless decisions, but do the choices we make truly define who we are? Aren’t we entitled to make a few mistakes from time to time? It is, after all, what makes us human. But for a small group of Braddock County officials, making the wrong choice one chilly November afternoon would prove far more detrimental than any of them could have imagined.
Nora Clarke lived alone in the house that her late husband, Bob, had built for her and their daughter, Meghan. But after Bob’s death, Nora began to change. She became reclusive, isolated, withdrawn. She had shut out the world entirely, allowing no one inside the boundaries of her property. And it appeared the world had forgotten about her as well, that is, until the day Meghan and her husband came to check on Nora after an eight-year estrangement. The deplorable conditions they found Nora living in were shocking, to say the least; something had to be done.
Though Nora Clarke may have needed help, her situation should have been handled with care and sympathy instead of the heartless actions of a few people lacking compassion. Now, because of their reckless insensitivity, a savage, murderous force has been unleashed, bringing about hell on earth for everyone involved. They could have left her alone, they could have allowed her to live out the rest of her days the way she chose, but they didn’t. Others felt they knew what was best for Nora. Now they are learning how it feels to be treated without mercy.
