Basterebbe questo a farne uno degli oggetti più preziosi del mondo. Tuttavia la Menorah, il sacro candelabro ebraico a sette bracci razziato dal Tempio di Gerusalemme nel 70 d.C., è molto di più: è il simbolo stesso d'Israele, l'emblema della sua travagliata storia plurimillenaria. Ritrovarlo significa conquistarsi la gratitudine eterna di un intero popolo. O avere un potente mezzo di ricatto contro quel popolo. E infatti, non appena riemerge dall'oblio il diario di Antonio Fedeli, un pittore vissuto a Parigi durante la Rivoluzione Francese, diario nel quale sembrano esserci alcuni indizi per ritrovare la Menorah, le speranze si riaccendono. Ma si scatena anche la bramosia di chi vuole impossessarsi di quell'oggetto per arricchirsi o per conquistare potenti appoggi politici.
Una situazione esplosiva, che vede contrapposti il capo del Mossad, Oswald Breil, affiancato dalla famosa romanziera Laura Joanson e dalla geniale scienziata Sara Terracini, e Hytham Fasatne, un uomo d'affari libanese i cui scrupoli sono inversamente proporzionali alle sue sconfinate ricchezze.
La caccia al tesoro può dunque avere inizio e dispiegare il suo percorso tra le catacombe di Parigi e gli altopiani del Tibet, Portofino e il deserto iracheno, antichi manoscritti e sofisticati computer, pugnali e armi chimiche... Un percorso a ostacoli, lungo il quale si stringeranno pericolose alleanze, ci saranno scontri violenti e certezze troppo presto ritenute tali si trasformeranno in brucianti sconfitte.
E soltanto allora chi dimostrerà di aver compreso il sottile legame che unisce la storia alla leggenda e di sapersi muovere con destrezza lungo le tortuose anse del tempo riuscirà a scoprire dove si trova la Menorah. Dando così avvio a una nuova, e ancor più emozionante, avventura...
