The use of bio-identical hormones is crucial for optimal results. Bio-identical hormones are defined as natural hormones made in the human body. Synthetic progestins such as medroxyprogesterone (MPA) are known to increase the risk of breast cancer and should be avoided. It is widely believed estrogen causes breast cancer. This belief is false based on new data from the Women's Health Initiative study in 2004, second arm, using Premarin (CEE) alone. The 18-year follow-up showed the estrogen arm of the study enjoyed a 40 percent reduction in breast cancer mortality. This is a paradigm shift in our thinking.
