Acerca de esta escucha

MATES is a wild comedy about two men who are thrown together in a home for the "almost crazy" – and, in the course of a single day, discover the meaning of life. The play begins with a "click" – the click that David Whittler's alarm clock makes just seconds before it rings. And that awakens him in time to turn off the alarm. That Whittler can run his life with such precision is just one of the things about him that drives Charles Evans nuts. Through the course of the next two hours, from seven-past- seven to seven-past-nine, the two men rant and rave, laugh and cry, tell stories and delve into life's meaning. Whittler has a story for every occasion. Evans has only one – but it's an incredibly long story about an attempt in his youth to build a boat. Throughout the morning, the men argue about the worthlessness of sociology; they debate where God lives; they engage in amateur dramatics; they evaluate the life decisions they have made. And they decide that the only thing they can do – that would have some meaning – is to kill themselves. They decided to crucify themselves, actually. Together. They manage to get the thing to work – sort of. And as they revel in their accomplishment – up there on their crosses – they decide that if they have done something worth doing, if they have discovered that life is worth living because of other people, then maybe they should live.
