Als Chase Blood zu einem geheimen Treffen mit dem Stadthalter des New Yorker Vampirimperiums, Big Tom Ybanez, gebeten wird, erwartet er nichts Böses. Ybanez kontrolliert die Gangs von East Harlem und da gibt es immer mal wieder Uneinigkeiten bei den Bandenmitgliedern. Chase vermutet lediglich, dass es ein paar kleinere Probleme zu besprechen gibt. Doch Ybanez Absichten sind alles andere als friedlich und vermittelnd. Er empfängt Chase mit einer Armbrust bewaffnet und einem Dutzend Holzpflöcke im Gürtel. Offensichtlich hat Ybanez vor, Chase nach bester Vampirjägermanier zu töten!
Chase Blood macht seinem Ruf allen Ehren und vernichtet Ybanez in einem brutalen Zweikampf. Über seinen Sieg will die Nr. 2 des New Yorker Vampirimperiums sich dennoch nicht freuen. Denn Ybanez Mordversuch kann nur als Rebellion gedeutet werden. Jemand versucht den mächtigen Vampirfürsten Radvanyi, dessen Stellvertreter Chase ist, zu schwächen. Darüber besteht kein Zweifel. Auch die Tatsache, dass der Vampirfürst von Philadelphia seit einiger Zeit versucht, Radvanyis Thron strittig zu machen und dessen Macht zu untergraben, bestärkt Chase in dieser Annahme. Wer steckt hinter dem Aufstand? Keine Rebellion funktioniert ohne Intrigen...und deren Drahtzieher agieren meist aus unmittelbarer Nähe...
John Devlin ist das Pseudonym des deutschen Autors Alfred Bekker. Alfred Bekker wurde am 27. September 1964 in Borghorst/Nordrhein-Westfalen geboren und ist heute bekannt als Autor von mehr als 350 Romanen. A. Bekkers Schaffen ist in einer Vielzahl literarischen Gattungen vertreten. Er veröffentlichte bislang sowohl Romane in den Genres Krimi, Horror und Fantasy als auch Western und historische Romane. Zudem ist er im Kinder-und Jugendbuchbereich tätig. Neben seinem bürgerlichen Namen verwendet A. Bekker auch verschiedene Pseudonyme für seine Arbeiten. Unter anderem schreibt er als Neal Chadwick, Henry Rohmer, Sidney Gardner und Jack Raymond.
