MURDER IN THE CRYSTAL COURT-- DESCRIPTION The Murder in the Crystal Court is the second unsought case to come Dave White's way since his retirement from a career as a Corporate Economist and Chief Financial Officer. Although he is not interested in becoming a private investigator in his retirement, and his spouse and life partner, Chris Thorson, is definitely opposed, it is hard for either of them to turn this case down. The Minnesota Family Values Coalition is planning to use the unsolved death of Stuart Nelson in 1974 and pictures of unindicted, but publicly accused suspect, wealthy lawyer Tony Williams, in their television ad campaign in favor of an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution banning gay marriage. They plan to insinuate that gay people are more likely to murder their partners and commit crimes in general. Tony begs Dave to take the job of investigating his young lover Stuart's death and thereby exonerating Tony because of Dave's success in solving the murder of his own college years lover, Mark Swan, as recounted in "Murder at SJU," the first book in the Dave White series. Dave and Chris reluctantly consent for the sake of helping to defeat the amendment. Dave is surprised to find that the case leads to a test of his well-developed corporate finance skills as it comes to involve investment banking and brokerage. It also makes him a friend of Mildred Cargrove, the sole owner of one of the largest privately owned corporations in the world. Dave is not all about public service. He enjoys his retirement and the inexplicable fact that much younger gay men frequently find him attractive. He meets Darren, a Criminal Justice student intern at the Center for Murder Research. They begin a sexual affair that unexpectedly becomes a threat to Dave and Chris's 39-year open relationship. As Dave pursues the truth about Stewart Nelson's death and his own serendipitous sex life, he discovers the extensive web of past and current romantic relationships among the members of the gay male community of Minnesota, which binds them together in the fight against the marriage amendment. Note: Murder in the Crystal Court contains descriptions of explicit sexual activity.
