What would you change if you had to start your life - and love life - over again?

Eager for a new beginning, Emma opens a doggy day care. Unfortunately, the only space she can afford is owned by her childhood nemesis Ali Pratt. But hey, she’s been through worse, right? She tries to roll with the punches, but a friend drops his grandpa off at the doggy day care in desperation then on top of that, she and Ali bring the term ‘frenemies’ to a whole new level. And then another grandparent shows up. And another.

In the midst of all that, Emma realizes she’s accidentally fallen for Evil PT. But the most horrifying thing of all is that Ali just might have turned into the best friend she’s ever had. And as Emma grows from the pain of her past and takes on her new path, she comes to realize that life isn’t what you’re given, it’s what you make of it.

The seventh book in the Wildstone series puts Emma and Simon together while Allison learns how to be a friend who is struggling in her relationship with Ryan.  All of this happens under the watchful eye of Simon's dad, Dale, while Simon and Allison help him recover from multiple strokes.    Emma and Allison were frenemies in high school and they get thrown back together at a time in their life when they are both struggling.  Emma is recovering from a serious injury and coma and trying to find work.  Allison was recently dumped by the love of her life because of her struggles with interpersonal relationships.  Allison’s business savvy can help Emma purchase a doggy daycare she has been working at successfully and Emma can help Allison learn to connect with people.  In addition, they can help each other connect with the men they want in their lives.  If they will only let each other.

These characters (human and canine) are well developed and engaging.  The story moves quickly and gives the reader the happily ever after they are looking for.

I am thankful for the electronic copy of the book that I received from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.  I purchased my audible copy of the book.

This book follows the typical predictable formula for romance, which is why I read the genre. While it was cute, nothing really grabbed me and made me not want to stop listening to the story. The best part was Emma’s relationship with Ali. The worst part was about halfway through when the author briefly and awkwardly mentions Covid. There was no purpose for it, and the pandemic was not a central theme to the book. I cussed aloud and almost stopped listening. I read to escape not be reminded of current hardships. Save Covid for future historical fiction writers. That ruined the book for me.

Cute but Covid??
